Super Junior’s four-dimensional member and the chairman of celebrity group called ‘Chocoball‘, Kim Heechul, recently talked about his concerns on life after his future enrollment in the army.

On August 1st, on the summer vacation special edition of MBC’s ‘Yoo Jae Suk and Kim Won Hee’s Play With Me‘, Heechul confessed, “My normal image on broadcasts is being a bit abnormal so I’m not sure that after 2 years of military service, the public would accept my abnormalities again” showing some signs of concern.

Kim Heechul also anxiously added, “If you fall from a low status, you can go right back. But if you fall from a very high place, it’s going to be really difficult to climb back up. Especially now that I’ve already reached my peak…” accumulating a slight resentment from the ‘Chocoball’ members because of Heechul’s self-pride in his popularity.

However, Kim Heechul disregarded the fellow members and commented, “I wonder if many people would still accept me, would I have as much freedom as now?”

Meanwhile, ‘Chocoball’ is a Korean acronym for ‘People who are a bit psychotic but with elevated charms every time you look at them’. The group is comprised of celebrities with the AB blood type.

All able bodied Korean men must serve anywhere from 21 to 25 months in a military branch before they turn 31.

This makes me think of Kim Jong Min. He was the 4D babo before he went to service. When he came back he wasn't the same. He lost the confidence to be stupid and look foolish. He still hasn't really found that edge he had before, but he's getting much better at variety now. Imo it breaks celebrities. They have to reinvent themselves because they've been living as a person for 2 years and now they have to put back on the persona they had before or show us something even more interesting. To try and reinvent yourself as fast as you have to when you finally finish your service is near impossible. Show me any artist who went for service that came back at the same level or better and I'll retract everything I said before.

You are right. Wonbin is an exception to the rule. But he has always been the exception. He still is able to perform at the top level in his particular field. I didn't mean to just limit it to variety. I think a lot of actors lose an edge of appeal once they return from service. That could simply be an age factor.

Oh Heechul. :( It is a legit concern because there have been many celebrities who weren't able to bounce right back into celebrity life after military service. Heechul and Leeteuk are very much aware of that, and for two people who have fully embraced celebrity life to the fullest, it's the scariest thing to come back without the same adulation.

Heechul is probably right seeing how many celebrities witness a slow down in their career when they come back from the army but I still believe he's so unique that many people will miss him & wait for him to be back

you know, i am curious though. he's had a number of pretty serious injuries throughout his career (his leg being the main one), and from my understanding of the Korean army system, he still has to be able to complete basic training, which is quite physical if it's anything like the American basic training. and if his body is too fucked up for him to be able to complete basic... what happens then?
