Korea's longest running idol group Shinhwa, which celebrated its 13th anniversary this year, has officially launched its Shinhwa Company.
Shinhwa is the one and only Korean idol which has stayed together without any member replacements. It is the first time in K-Pop history that the members of a group have personally established a management company, continuing its group legacy. Thus, the news of their comeback has grabbed the attention of many officials in the business.
The six members of Shinhwa--Eric, Kim Dongwan, Shin Hyesung, Lee Minwoo, Jun Jin, and Andy--personally invested in and found Shinhwa Company, and revealed their future plans as Shinhwa.
◆ Background behind Shinhwa Company's establishment
The plan for Shinhwa Company came about from the strong will of the Shinhwa members to maintain their independent and organized activities as a group. Open World Entertainment holds the naming rights for Shinhwa, and the head of Jang Sukwoo gave his approval to the Shinhwa members for the free use of the name.
Since the beginning of this year, the members of Shinhwa have been closely consulting Open World Entertainment for the establishment of Shinhwa Company. Open World's president Jang Sukwoo, who owns the naming rights, played a big role in founding the company by giving his approval for the use of the naming rights for as long as the members stay together as Shinhwa.
Thus, on August 1st, 2011, Shinhwa Company, the first company in Korean showbiz history to have the members of an idol group as its heads and investors, was established. Currently, the group's leader Eric is taking on the role of president, but after Lee Minwoo is released from his military duties next February, Eric and Lee Minwoo will become the co-presidents and will be look after all of Shinhwa's activities.
◆ The management of Shinhwa Company
As the six members of Shinhwa invested in Shinhwa Company, they will be personally taking over the company's management and operation as the heads and investors.
Open World Entertainment, which allowed the naming rights to be used by Shinhwa Company, will hold the rights for Shinhwa's overseas performances, and has already started planning an organized Asia tour project with its many know-hows from its previous experiences with Shinhwa's Asia tours. Open World will also be helping Shinhwa Company with overseas license related issues.
Also, the head of Top Class Entertainment, president Choi Byungmin, and the head of Liveworks Company, president Lee Jangeon, have been appointed by the members as CEOs of Shinhwa Company. Top Class Entertainment will overlook Shinhwa's televised promotions and general management operations, while Liveworks Company will overlook production of Shinhwa's albums and concerts, along with press promotion.
◆ The individual activities of the Shinhwa members
The individual activities of each of the Shinhwa members will be managed by the companies the members are currently under: Top Class Entertainment (Eric), Liveworks Company (Shin Hyesung, Kim Dongwan), M-Rizing Entertainment (Lee Minwoo), Open World Entertainment (Jun Jin), and TOP Media (Andy).
◆ Shinhwa's future activities
Currently Shinhwa is receiving many concert and promotion offers from inside and outside the country, across Asia. They will be releasing their 10th album sometime near March 24, 2012, their 14th anniversary, and will be undergoing extensive promotion including televised activities.
Also, after the release of their 10th album, Shinhwa plans to set off on an Asia tour, starting with Japan and China, and continuing on through 5~6 countries.
