On July 28th, actor Takaoka Sousuke announced through his official Twitter that he will be resigning from his agency.
The actor recently stirred a controversy with an inflamatory series of tweets, bashing ‘Hallyu’ (‘Korean Wave)’ in Japan.
Takaoka commented, “From one tweet, it became a big sensation. I have caused trouble to people who are related to the agency. I know this is the logical consequence.” He continued, “To everyone who has supported and assisted me, thank you very much.”
Immediately after, he wrote, “I’m not hoping to be viewed as wise. I’m hoping for citizens to make wise decisions. Once again, I’m able to see a new light.”
MOD, please approve this post 'cause it's completely different from what AKP said..

I do understand that he may want to see more japanese dramas instead of korean ones, but saying things like brainwashing and being scared every time the world hallyu comes up is a bit too much.
it's just xenophobic no matter how you look at it so people saying he's a hero really boggles my mind. not saying you said but in general.

Date: 2011-07-29 12:57 pm (UTC)xenophobia for the win!
and yeah he wasn't blatantly racist and didn't say things like koreans should get of japan, but the fact that he said brainwashing imo was a bit too far and his comments were xenophobic whether people like it or not.
and two wrongs don't make a right. just saying for the people who say that if this were reversed, koreans would be throwing even a bigger fit.

Date: 2011-07-29 04:05 pm (UTC)I don't think his comments are that bad for him to be fired/forced to leave 'voluntarily' from his company.
... NGL even I get tired of the Hallyu every now and then and I don't even live in a country where it's shoved in my face everyday.

Date: 2011-07-29 05:20 pm (UTC)However, he explained, “It troubles me because I feel like I am being brainwashed”, and “Since we’re in Japan, I would like to see Japanese programs. I get scared every time I hear the word, ‘Hallyu’”.
yup not xenophobic at all. and like someone mentioned above japanese groups get 5 times the amount of promotions that korean groups do, and fuju tv is one of 200 channels in japan. I highly doubt that whenever he flips a channel, it's a korean drama or program or whatever.

Date: 2011-07-30 12:51 am (UTC)OT but I had this one friend who would make sweeping generalizations about asians and make insulting comments all the time and I would call her out on it, and she got so upset that I dare call her a racist as if that was worse than the things she was saying.
