On July 28th, actor Takaoka Sousuke announced through his official Twitter that he will be resigning from his agency.

The actor recently stirred a controversy with an inflamatory series of tweets, bashing ‘Hallyu’ (‘Korean Wave)’ in Japan.

Takaoka commented, “From one tweet, it became a big sensation. I have caused trouble to people who are related to the agency. I know this is the logical consequence.” He continued, “To everyone who has supported and assisted me, thank you very much.

Immediately after, he wrote, “I’m not hoping to be viewed as wise. I’m hoping for citizens to make wise decisions. Once again, I’m able to see a new light.

Not much of a difference, tbh =/
Fired or forced to leave 'voluntarily' are kind of the same thing.

I'm sure he didn't decide to leave his agency by himself.

i agree with this sfm. is it wrong for him to voice his opinion of the hallyu or smth? people need to calm the fk down because hallyu isn't like the 8th wonder of the world or anything. -__-

lol people aren't upset because he critized hallyu or whatever, it's because his comments were xenophobic as fuck and if people can't see that, that's sad.

erghh, really? then i probably didn't read all of the tweet translations! =/ do you think you could link me/paste here the specific lines people got upset over?

sorry for my premature comment, in this case. ;\

well here's the link the the first article with all of his tweets

http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/7165462.html

I do understand that he may want to see more japanese dramas instead of korean ones, but saying things like brainwashing and being scared every time the world hallyu comes up is a bit too much.

it's just xenophobic no matter how you look at it so people saying he's a hero really boggles my mind. not saying you said but in general.

it also doesn't help that he namedropped a specific tv network in his rant. that's just a bad idea for an actor, period.

That was well deserved. I'm glad racist tweets lead to bad consequences, it shows there is something fair somewhere. Although of course it was more because he criticized a big agency...

lol at some people, well mostly arama and I think allkpop, being like omg I'm so proud of him for speaking his mind and not apologizing.

xenophobia for the win!

and yeah he wasn't blatantly racist and didn't say things like koreans should get of japan, but the fact that he said brainwashing imo was a bit too far and his comments were xenophobic whether people like it or not.

and two wrongs don't make a right. just saying for the people who say that if this were reversed, koreans would be throwing even a bigger fit.

this. and I can't believe someone on arama agreed and said koreans are brainwashing the world. like really, it's not like they are going to every single person and holding up a string and waving it back and forth saying you must like korean dramas and music.

LOL I don't think he's a xenophobic I think he just wanted his country to have a little more pride in it's own ability to produce good dramas and not rely so much on the hallyu for thier entertainment purposes.

I don't think his comments are that bad for him to be fired/forced to leave 'voluntarily' from his company.

... NGL even I get tired of the Hallyu every now and then and I don't even live in a country where it's shoved in my face everyday.

"It offends me” and that, “If anything related to Korea is on broadcast, I just turn the TV off”.

However, he explained, “It troubles me because I feel like I am being brainwashed”, and “Since we’re in Japan, I would like to see Japanese programs. I get scared every time I hear the word, ‘Hallyu’”.

yup not xenophobic at all. and like someone mentioned above japanese groups get 5 times the amount of promotions that korean groups do, and fuju tv is one of 200 channels in japan. I highly doubt that whenever he flips a channel, it's a korean drama or program or whatever.

If he wants Japan to have more pride in their dramas he needs to realize that j-dramas are popular in korea too. it goes both ways.

Japan's popular culture is widespread all over the world. Fan communities like Arama and others dedicated to anime, videogames, etc. prove that. But I don't see people bitching about how there is "too much Japanese stuff" and Japanese products are brainwashing the masses. Probably because most people (I would like to think) don't have disgusting views like Takaoka Sousuke!

Nevermind, I just went over to Arama. Humanity is horrible, the world should end, "national pr1de" should be banned from language forevermore, etc

lol some people over there. I swear some act like being called racist/xenophobic is more offensive than saying racist/xenophobic things.

OT but I had this one friend who would make sweeping generalizations about asians and make insulting comments all the time and I would call her out on it, and she got so upset that I dare call her a racist as if that was worse than the things she was saying.

Like what many people note, the word "racist" has become taboo, but not racist attitudes themselves. :p People justify their views on the most inane logic such as (paraphrasing)"But you see, Korean products have apparently gone over an acceptable level of exposure and this hurts Japanese national pride because now instead of 99% of Japanese television featuring Japanese people, it's 98.5% and..." etc. haha.
