Sousuke Takaoka, a famous Japanese actor, is under fire after publicly sharing his hostility towards the Hallyu wave.
On July 24th, Sousuke Takaoka posted through his Twitter, “I used to be indebted to Fuji TV in the past, but now I’m suspicious that they may actually be a Korean network” and “I’m questioning about what country I’m in, as well”, sharing his controversial opinions.
Furthermore, he didn’t hide any of his feelings, going on to say, “It offends me” and that, “If anything related to Korea is on broadcast, I just turn the TV off”.
However, he explained, “It troubles me because I feel like I am being brainwashed”, and “Since we’re in Japan, I would like to see Japanese programs. I get scared every time I hear the word, ‘Hallyu’”.
Although it was only an opinion, the problem is that certain Japanese netizens went on to agree with Takaoka, widely sharing their critical perspective towards the Hallyu wave.
Some Japanese netizens showed their accordance by commenting, “It’s true”, “I want to stop seeing Korean celebrities”, “Japanese dramas are great enough. I don’t know why they need to keep showing Korean dramas’.”
Korean netizens who heard of this news were dumbfounded and confused, and reacted, “Korean dramas are exported and broadcast under the decisions of Japanese broadcasting companies and drama producers, but it’s a shame to see that people seem to be putting the blame on Korea”, “I’m disappointed that an actor that has played the role of a Korean-Japanese immigrant said something like this”, and “Are they not thinking about Japanese dramas being played in Korea? Are they going to be annoyed by American dramas that’s airing over there as well?”, sharing a wide variety of opinions.
Sousuke Takaoka is a famous actor that debuted in 1999 through the drama, “Heaven’s Kiss”. In particular, he has gained a reputation in Korea through, “Pacchigi”, where he played the role of ‘Lee An-sung’, a Korean-Japanese immigrant.
He is also the husband of top Japanese actress, Aoi Miyazaki.

Date: 2011-07-26 06:50 am (UTC)But obviously, not much money is to be made in Korea...hence why all their artists are heading overseas. I heard from an Korean-American that Korea banned the broadcast of Taiwanese dramas (and probably dramas from other countries as well)... how is it fair that they want to export their product, but doesn't accept import from other countries...?

Date: 2011-07-26 09:54 pm (UTC)They seem to only see Japan as a their cash-cow money-maker right now. Quite frankly, I do agree that Korean dramas are really overrated these days definitely not as good before the idol kids started taking over leading roles.
He has every right to state his opinions why because he can and he alone with others in Japan are starting to notice how the Koreans are still hateful and prejudice against them but yet they have no fcuking problem coming to Japan to make money. Many of them aren't even making an effort to learn Japanese either.
Besides you don't see Japanese artists flocking to Korea either...you don't see any casting agencies casting Japanese people or signing them to any record deals. If you ask me Koreans need to get over themselves and stop treating everything as a trend and a fad and stop using Japan as a cash-cow~
