We recently reported on 2NE1's Dara posting on her me2day account about www.2NE10921.com, a countdown that links to 2NE1's page on Avex Japan's website. The countdown leads to September 21st, the new date for the group's debut in Japan.
2NE1's debut was originally scheduled for February and March but was postponed due to the earthquake disaster. The group was even in Japan preparing to promote their debut in March when Japan was hit by the earthquake; the group was scheduled to perform "Go Away" on Music Station that very day.
The new countdown site lists four specific dates: July 20th, August 10th, August 31st, and September 21st. A digital single will be released on the first three days and finally the mini-album will be released on September 21st.
Upon the announcement of 2NE1's Japan debut, several Japanese news programs including Mezamashi News and Sankei Sports have featured 2NE1 and their "I Am The Best" music video. Newscasters commented on their strong dancing abilities and their popularity in America.
Regarding the Japan debut, CL said, "I have been able to spend time in Japan when I was younger, and Japan is a special place. I'm anxiously awaiting the day I can be closer and meet everyone."
The assorted news programs also revealed that transmission of the Japanese song will begin July 20th. Many of the programs showed the Korean version of the music video in anticipation of the Japanese version.

Date: 2011-07-09 04:04 pm (UTC)They were heavily publicized when their debut was set for a few months ago and even released stuff but... Did they even chart? I heard all of their MVs were on giant screens in Shibuya almost 24/7 but that didn't seem to help. =/
Good luck, girls!

Date: 2011-07-09 05:35 pm (UTC)2NE1 didn't and none of the title songs are even in the album they released...
good for b2ST though ;]

Date: 2011-07-09 11:28 pm (UTC)This wasn't promoted at all. Their showcase was after this was released. And KARA's Korean collection was released only a month after their debut and they weren't being heavily promoted then yet it still sold 50k.
I'm just saying that avex has been trying big things with rechokku, promotion in Shibuya, and theme songs to TV shows yet it doesn't seem to be working at all.

Date: 2011-07-10 04:21 am (UTC)2NE1's "compilation" korean album was released on March 16, 2011. 4days after the earthquake. their "debut performance" which is the day of the earthquake was obviously cancelled.
"KARA's Korean collection was released only a month after their debut"
They STILL debuted. They were able introduce themselves properly.
(I honestly don't even get why we're comparing this tbh~)
All 2NE1 had was release snippets of ringtones, have their Can't Nobody MV (ENGLISH VER) play in Tokyo, 2NE1's Go Away as a BGM in Mezamashi TV and be guests at random concerts + BIGBANG's concerts. I'd judge it when they actually debut...

Date: 2011-07-11 05:10 pm (UTC)I'm saying the earthquake happened on the day of 2NE1's introduction debut. It's quite unlucky. I don't think anyone in their right mind would buy a pricey album that didn't even have Japanese when this devastating thing just happened to their country to support an unknown foreign girlgroup who has who only been promoting officially in Japan the day before. They haven't even had fanmeets yet.
Shock was in Japanese. It's a single rather than an album. B2ST has had successful fanmeets before. They have a following. They've had a good album release and Jap promotions before 'Shock'.
So comparing B2ST's Jap single Shock to 2NE1's full Korean album is not that astute. It's not even fair to compare B2ST's Japan Premium (which was also in full Korean) to 2NE1's because of the earthquake, no promotions (fanmeets, etc etc).
Not to say that I think 2NE1 will be instant successes once they promote properly. I think their image hinders them. Too far away from the mainstream image. Also they haven't had fanmeets, personal interaction with fans. Not much TV & magazine promos. Plus, they're actually planning to do digital releases not physical sales! Last but not the least, they're managed by Avex. :'(

Date: 2011-07-09 08:39 pm (UTC)and as far as i can remember, it wasn't an actual physical release but rather digital?
but yeah they were playing the MV in shibuya (for a really long time too, first time i saw it was in november 2010) but idk. i feel like releasing and english song is lazy and that it doesn't deserve to chart anyway...

Date: 2011-07-09 11:31 pm (UTC)But remember, all of Big Bang's early mini albums in Japan were nothing but English songs... and I think those managed to fare pretty well? They didn't really start extensive Japanese promos until 2009 and those English songs came out from like 2007-2008, I think?

Date: 2011-07-10 12:46 am (UTC)which is why i think KARA is a success, because they're known to put effort into their japanese. same goes for SNSD. and their albums have sold far better than BB's last japanese one, which also was incredibly lazy. i don't get what YG is trying to achieve in japan to be honest...
