Super Junior's Kibum Cast in Drama "A Deep-Rooted Tree"
PD Hwang Giyong, producer of the upcoming drama "A Deep-Rooted Tree", told Oh My News that Kim Kibum has been cast as Park Paengnyeon in the drama, although he has not yet started filming. Kim Kibum will be playing the role of Park Paengnyeon - who, along with others such as Seong Sammoon, were favourites of King Sejong, helped to create the Jib Hyeonjeon school for the study of the classics, and were later executed as members of the Sayookshin group.
The drama is based on Lee Jeongmyeong's historical mystery novel of the same name. The story takes place in the Jib Hyeonjeon during the seven days prior to the official proclamation of the newly created Korean alphabet. It is a mystery surrounding a murder conspiracy in the palace, due to opposition to the introduction of the "hangeul" script. Published in 2006, it has been called the "Korean Da Vinci Code".
The script was written by the writers of "Jewel in the Palace" and "Queen Seondeok", Kim Yeonghyeon and Park Sangyeon. It will also star Han Seokgyu, Jang Hyeok, Shin Segyeong, Yoon Jaemoon, Song Jeunggi, and others. Han Seokgyu will be playing King Sejong, while Jang Hyeok will play Kang Chaeyoon, a government official who clashes with Sejong over Kang's status as a former slave.
The drama's first episode will air on September 28, following the end of "City Hunter" and the upcoming drama "Protect the Boss."
