SKorean students rank Japan nr 1 nation’s enemy

Many teenagers think that the Republic of Korea’s greatest enemy is not North Korea but Japan, a study has found. The Korea Advanced Youth Association and Teengora Media surveyed 2,500 middle and high school students at over 400 schools nationwide, finding that although 63.5% believe that North Korea was responsible for the sinking of the Cheonan, 44.5% said that Japan is our greatest enemy, it was announced on June 23.

With regards to the cause of the sinking of the Cheonan, 20.7% (403 students) said it was uncertain, 12.0% (235) said they didn’t know, 3.8% (74) said it was due to running aground on a submerged rock, and 63.5%(1,239) said it was due to an attack by North Korea, so the majority thought it was due to a North Korean attack.

As for what response our country should make if there were another attack from North Korea, 27.7% (534) said to respond diplomatically through the Sunshine Policy, 12.8% (246) said they did not know, and 59.6% (1,149) said there should be a strong response or immediate military action, making a strong response to a North Korean attack the most popular response.

Asked about enemies, 44.5% chose Japan, 22.1% chose North Korea, 19.9% chose the United States, 12.8% chose China and 0.6% chose Russia, showing that 44.5% of teenagers believe that Japan is an enemy.

If it was only the teenagers, many time this semester I had to shake my head in disbelief hearing some Korean students "vomiting" stupid ideas and concepts about Japan. When the Earthquake happened it was just O_o "what are talking about? did you even learn something at school all those years?" it's scary.

North Korea is not an enemy but more a nuisance to us modern folks. I guess it's a step up from the last generation that preached about their "northern blood brothers" and how we should send them cows and food even though they spend most of their national budget on thinking about how to invade and destroy our whole country.

it might not even be school, it could very well be transferred from generations. if you have parents and grandparents who suffered during the japanese occupation of korea, of course you're going to hold a grudge. and the fact that japan's government has never officially apologized to the comfort women they took advantage of still stings to a lot of people.

if it's the school, though, that's a whole other huge fucking problem. :|

I think I read that NK and SK citizens actually get along (something about relatives and friends was mentioned). Japan is the most hated due to their 30 years of colonization in SK.

True story: I was at a Korean party (party held by bunch of rich/spoiled/assholes international Korean students at my university). One of the plastic korean girl was like "S.Korea is the dominant race in Asia. Japan and China are inferior to S.Korea." Mind you she said this in front of 2 Japaneses and me (i'm chinese/japanese). We were all like "EXCUSE YOU RACIST BITCH" and...pretty much it all went down to hell.

Oh btw, Koreans tend to call Chinese = Chinks. I slapped a Korean guy once for saying that to me. I don't take this racism shit well.
