2011-06-23 01:02 pm
Popular Japanese men’s magazine, ‘GQ Japan‘ will publish a SNSD special in their July issue which will hit newsstands on the 24th. The special issue analyzes the factors to SNSD’s success in the music industry.
According to a report from the ‘Japanese Oricon’ on the 23rd, ‘GQ Japan’ will also present the thorough nurturing program of SM Entertainment. Through an interview with SNSD, the magazine reported that the trainees go through rigorous daily training sessions which can last to upwards of 10 hours a day and usually takes 5 to 8 years to debut.
‘GQ Japan’ also picked out the wide utilization of Youtube as one of the main success factors for SNSD to gain international fans.
The magazine is said to contain an extensive interview with SNSD and this will also mark the first time for SNSD to appear on a Japanese men’s magazine.
Earning approximately $32 million USD in just the first half of this year in Japan, SNSD has lived up to their reputation, marking their name in the Japanese market as a popular group. According to the Japanese ‘Oricon Chart’ on their ‘First Half of 2011 Evaluation’, which was published on the 22nd of June, SNSD has ranked 5th in sales of their singles, albums, DVD, and other materials.
This report included all types of sales starting from December 27th of 2010 to June 20th of 2011. According to the sales report, SNSD sold about 800,000 copies of singles, albums, DVDs, and other materials, earning approximately $32 million USD.
can't wait for the issue & translations to come out because this article didn't say much tbh

Date: 2011-06-23 08:32 pm (UTC)Also, when they start out at 9 or 10 or 11 years old, how much can you do with them? Sure, Taemin trained for 3 years before debuting, but SME didn't give him any vocal training until after his voice finished breaking - which was several months after he debuted. And obviously they're still going to school full-time when they're trainees.

Date: 2011-06-23 09:07 pm (UTC)Its never said that they were trained in singing for the amount of years SME has them, just that they were trained.
Though, I swear Yoona was a better singer when they started. It almost seems like she lost more and more confidence. She, Hyoyeon, Sooyoung and Yuri would really benefit from more singing lessons. But, Seohyun could probably use some too, Sunny & Jessica needs some stamina building, Taeyeon needs to learn not to just belt 90% of things and Tiffany needs.... a lot of small things? So, its most likely that they are building idols, not singers.

Date: 2011-06-24 05:26 am (UTC)Also, I heard that even though trainees are trained in all areas (singing, dancing, acting, hosting, languages, whatever else) trainees get to pick which area to train on the most, so there are some that obviously focused on singing (Taeyeon, Jonghyun, Onew) while others focus on dancing (Yunho, Eunhyuk, Taemin, Hyoyeon). Some chose to act and just not do the idol thing (Yeonhee and Ara).
