The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Saturday vowed to achieve national reunification with the strength of army and people, the official KCNA news agency reported.

The army and people of the DPRK will never pardon the South Korean authorities, who drove the north-south relations into an uncontrollable situation, said Kim Ki Nam, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee.

The DPRK will "launch a nationwide all-out offensive to put an end to South Korea's anti-DPRK confrontation moves and achieve the historic cause of national reunification without fail," he added.

Kim made the remarks at a national meeting held at the People's Palace of Culture on Saturday to mark the 47th anniversary of top leader Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee.

He called for further increasing the politico-ideological, military and technological might of the army, completing the work to "put all people under arms and turn the whole country into a fortress," safeguarding the country as firm as "an iron wall" through the concerted efforts of the army and people, and dynamically pushing forward socialist construction.

Kim Jong Il started his work at the WPK Central Committee on June 19, 1964.

yeah...no matter how strong north korea might become, there are a host of other nations who will come to help s.korea in all ways possible, because they just really do not want another communist state added to the current pile and i doubt china will help them much...

In the past, China will actually help N.Korea. But now, I think N.Korea has given China too much shit and is pissing China off. And moreover, China has much more pressing issues to deal with like its economy and the undervalued yuan.

Agreed. I think China's starting to back of N. Korea too since China is becoming (has become?) a super power in it's own right and associating with the DPRK regime will only hurt them politically and hurt relations/trade with other major powers.

... ngl, i thought i saw 'DBSK' and 'reunification' in the title, almost creamed myself :/

Anyway on a serious note, as people ^ have said, SK will get aid if this all comes to a head, but I still worry about how much damage, political, literal or otherwise, could potentially come out of this.

Oh shit.
Actually, I don't think NK authorities are stupid enough to launch an attack on SK, when US troops are stationed there with a few other powerful nations willing to come to defend SK~

They're not. Most of the trouble/shit talking they cause is to get aid and other stuff from sk or to advance their position in negotiations.

The only time one has to worry about conflict is when NK is on the brink of collapse.

yeah they definitely aren't. as much as they teach in schools there and in media that the us is bad, they know they need the support from the us to even realistically consider reunification or else the us can cut off virtually all help, trade, etc from and with other countries around the world

It's funny to see in articles like this that it seems only North Korea wants to be come one again. Can't blame South Korea though. Why would they want this? That country is poor as crap and it would only hurt them.
I do feel badly for the innocent people in the North who are being f---ed over by their leaders.

what about all the separated families who haven't been allowed to see each other in years? or the poorer people in the dprk who's only hope for having a better life si reunification?

with all their threats, it may not seem like it, but i think the people in the dprk are the ones who want reunification the most, and they know that they need the backing of the us and south korea to do so or else they won't be able to get help from anyone else. just because the current government there is not good does not mean that they should never be reunified.
