Although I’m a huge Yoseob stan, Jieun’s performance was much more emotionally spot-on but unfortunately the chorus back-up singers were off. I had read some fan accounts of people who were actually in the audience, and the few I read seemed to agree that Jieun's was the stand-out performance of the night and that the people around them were surprised at the results of the Yoseob vs. Jieun battle. Yoseob's rendition was nice and he has a lovely lovely voice, but the style of the song just really didn't fit the lyrics of the song.
Yehsung is very suited to Boowhal’s songs, so I’m not surprised he won. He didn't really deviate too much from the original song, but his performance was very strong and I had predicted he would win even from the previews last week. :)
Hyorin still demonstrates she’s a vocal powerhouse, but that was exactly the problem - she was singing to show off her voice and not to tell the story of the song. Boowhal had said in the last episode about how you will fail at singing Boowhal's songs if you are singing them to sing and not to tell the lyrics. And Hyorin's performance was very flashy, but the stylistic decisions were all expressly for the purpose of showing off her voice and not in relation to the atmosphere of the song. There's no denying that she's incredibly talented, but this performance just totally missed the mark emotionally.
Changmin’s was nice and in-keeping with the meaning of the lyrics. I appreciated that even the added rap and playacting was still in line with the story he was trying to tell with the song. It also helps that this is one of my favorite Boowhal songs, hehe.
Jonghyun just had me nervous the whole entire time that he was going to break his voice.
Anyway, one of the highlights of this episode for me was the little bit of Yoseob/Jieun interaction we got, haha.
I'm sad that Yoseob, Yehsung, and Jjong are leaving...And then Jieun's leaving after the next two episodes... :(
I totally agree with the Hyorin part & that's exactly where Yesung topped them all I mean he was throwing all his heart in the song to relay the emotions resulting in a powerful performance that gave me goosebumps though Idon't get a word of the lyrics
congrats to yesung. I love how he was singing along when changmin was performing. he seemed so into it. and jjong was looking mad fine. he seemed to have fun, although nothing beats last episode in terms of fun.
& I'm so happy he won I wish he stayed longer in the show, why? oh why haven't you showed this side of you Yesung? this style, so powerful & full of emotions, suits him way better than ballads
Yoseob and Hyorin sang the same song but damn, Yoseob made the song soo boring. I'm not denying his great voice, but i didn't like his renditions. Hyorin was AMAZING as usual. She's the only one whose performance i rewatch again and again. This week i think she did well not only singing, but actually performing and owning the stage.
JiEun was great too, her voice is very steady. She's soo beautiful too.
Yesung and Hyorin were my fave from "the rest" but still they couldn't beat the baby raptor for me. I will miss him when he leaves the show, ngl. I was looking forward to each song he sang so much and they pretty much became my favourites jams of the past days T.T
I've never been the biggest fan of Yesung's singing. I could appreciate him as a serious singer, but personally I had problems with both his voice (too stuffy) and his singing style (too wobbly, too emotional). Purely as a personal preference.
Still, I was really happy when I heard he was going to participate in IS2. It seemed like the perfect forum for him to show off his talents. Singing other than your average pop/dance-songs and singing solo. At the same time I was nervous for him. What if he wouldn't do well enough? What if he'd fail? I know he has this fail!Yesung persona that he has cultivated in variety and that his fans love. But I'd guess the one thing he would NEVER want to fail at is singing.
But this. This was spot on. I can't explain how impressed I was. Even now, thinking back, I'm getting goose bumps. Everything worked. It was this continuous build that finally exploded in a magnificent climax and catharsis. His chocking-on-one's-own-emotions -style of singing worked perfectly for the song. And his long notes... So strong. He was just basically bleeding on that stage. And afterwards he was just spent, panting like he had just finished a 100-m sprint. And I felt how Yoseob and Hyorin looked.
I've come to realize that power ballads are definitely Yesung's genre. And I guess Yesung knew it as well, if this was his audition song for SME way back when. Now I'm just fantasizing about having Yesung do a rendition of all my favorite power ballads. Starting with the Scorpions' 'Still Loving You'.
Hyorin did good. Love her voice, she's an amazing singer and, it seems, the break-out star of this show. But on this one she simply was second best. I don't know about Jieun. I couldn't finish watching her performance. Sounded too horrid because of the back-up singers...
--- Oh, one more thing. I was kind of surprised how he kept bringing up SJ. Introducing himself as SJ's Yesung, mentioning Siwon (dunno why tho) and finally saying how he had wanted to show another side of Suju with his singing. Of course I knew how attached he was to SJ, but I would have thought he'd want to cherish this moment to shine as a solo, not as a member of an idol-group.
can I be a fan of your comment? I fail at expressing myself but you really pointed out all that popped in my head
Yesung performing "Still Loving You"? OMG! let's hope we won't die until this dream comes true
I don't understand Korean but I recognized when he said Super Junior (also while introducing himself). I thought the same as you, it almost got me tearing seeing how strong their bond is, he never forgets about his brothers even when he has his own moment of glory
ikr hyorin is just TOO FUCKING MUCH. she's amazing. there's a part of me that screams she should have won, but at the same time i'm reaallly happy yesung won this time (:
so much yesung love in this post omg i am so happy ;~; yesung was fantastic amazing fabulous and i'm so happy for him, he must have been elated and i'm sure this was a huge confidence booster for him and his solo singing ♥
i really liked yoseob's because it felt so comfortable. and his voice is really suited to the lounge style. plus his falsetto is really comfortable to listen to. :3
i loved how yoseob's face was all :o during hyorin's performance, lol so adorable.
jieun was really great! what were those backup singers though.....
yesung has not only AMAZING VOCALS, but the tone/sound of his voice is SO NICE. the deep/thick/velvety-ness makes him truly unique in comparison to the other idols. <3
I LOVE HYORIN BUT DAMN I KNEW YESUNG WAS GUNNA GIVE HER A RUN WITH HIS PERFORMANCE. AND YES I HAVE TO TYPE IN CAPS BECAUSE THIS SHOW MAKES ME EXCITED. BUT ANYWAYS, HYORIN OWNED THE STAGE AS USUAL AND SHOWED HOW MUCH A VOCAL POWERHOUSE SHE IS, BUT YESUNG BROUGHT IT HOME IN HIS EMOTIONAL CONNECTION TO THE LYRICS. YOU BELIEVED HIS EMOTION, AND WHILE HYORIN WAS VOCALLY MORE...WELL..POWERFUL/AMAZING/ETC, I FELT THAT SHE WAS FOCUSED MORE ON THE PERFORMANCE THAN THE EMOTION. BUT DANG THEY'RE ALL SO FREAKIN GOOD. SDU9OFH4JKLFL pissed yesung is leaving tho.
i loved hyo rin!!! and i loved yesung too...i guess yesung has this smoky quality to his voice tht helps with rock ballads.... im sad for hyorin tho...she put up such an amaziiing performance!!! really...blown away by her talent...
aww jong you try too hard with going so high but i like that you go all out and take the audience with you :D
apart from that i think yesung and hyorin were best. i just wish hyorin wouldn't show off with singing that long note, it would have made the whole thing perfect. it's nice that she can do it but it wasn't necessary. and yesung should have given it more power in the beginning..just a little bit, because it always comes across as a little insecure when he mumbles into the mic.
lol Jjong I got all ready for my ears to bleed before I clicked play but that was actually pretty good, only the high notes made me cringe :D I love his freestyle derping on stage and he's a very charismatic performer.
Yoseob's Heeya was bland but charming... If I wasn't a stan I'd probably been bored but yeah whatever I loved it~ Hyorin blew him out of the water (of course) but I'm still waiting for her to come out of her comfort zone and rock the stage like I know she can (well I don't but I can tell).
Yesung's performance was just flawless. My jaw dropped and pretty much stayed that way as he reached every high note. He deserved to win. ♥
Although I love Hyorin, I didn't feel any emotional connection with her and the song. She has an amazing voice, yes. But idk, her performance didn't feel that genuine tbh. I still love her tho.
Yoseob's falsettos are perfection. I like his jazz take on the song. I wish he stayed on the show a little longer. T__T I need more "Omma" performances in my life.

Yesung was fabulous as well. I love listening to him.
Jieun was lovely too! Hyorin oh my god that girl...her voice. I can't. She should have won tbh. My mouth was gaping during the whole performance.
