Secret to debut in Japan with "Madonna"

Following the news of Rainbow and T-ARA’s crossover to Japan, it’s been announced that 4-membered girl group SECRET also have plans to debut there as well. The girls plan to break into the J-pop scene with the Japanese version of their hit single “Madonna“, which will come out on August 3rd.

SECRET has been called “basement idols” in the past, because they use to live in a dorm that was half underground when they first debuted. Although the group’s debut song wasn’t much of a hit, they broke through with their singles “Magic” and “Madonna” last year. Their 2011 single “Shy Boy” gave the group their first #1, and in March, member Jieun’s solo – “Going Crazy“ also topped the charts.

These girls became one of the hottest girl groups in Korea, and Japanese record labels battled hotly for their contract. In the end, SECRET signed on with Sony Music Artist Records.

A representative from Sony commented, “I was surprised by how good the songs were, as well as how polished their performance was.”

Leader Hyosung commented, “With our Japanese debut coming up, I am very nervous. We are preparing very hard with new feelings, so please look forward to it. And please give SECRET a lot of love.”

The group will be holding a showcase live in Tokyo on July 6th prior to the release of their Japanese single.

Well, I liked this song's style for SECRET the best...this one or Magic. But I think Madonna's lyrics are catchier and I liked the choreo/etc more.

More than that, I'm sorta impressed/surprised that it's Sony that signed them. Heh, I guess everyone wants a piece of the money-makin' cake now?

Not just Secret, but I mean others who have barely had a taste of success or none at all; like just the other day someone said that Code V group already debuted over there. It makes it seem like these Korean companies only see Japan as Plan B when these groups don't get instant fame in Korea imo.

The funny thing about your last line is that the groups who flop in Korea for the most part don't do much better in Japan. The ones moving the most copies of singles are people who are already popular in Korea more or less.
