Taxi driver defends Daesung in accident, YGE's second statement

As Daesung’s car accident continues to be investigated, the taxi driver that was rear-ended by the Big Bang star revealed that Daesung had in fact been driving at 60km/h. A police statement previously asserted that Daesung was driving at 80km/h, but YG Entertainment has spoken out and argued that there are many different factors to this incident, and that it should be regarded as a complex case.

On May 31st, a YG Entertainment representative stated,

   “The taxi driver who was rear-ended by Daesung has said that Daesung had not been driving that fast; he said that he felt he had driven at about 60 km/h. Although Daesung was the one who told the authorities that he was driving at 80 km/h,  this was said while he was in a state of great shock and confusion.”

   The site of the accident is on a downhill slope – isn’t it normal for most drivers to not have their foot on the accelerator while driving downhill? Therefore, in order to find at what speed Daesung was driving at, there must be an on-site investigation.“

Previously, the Seoul Youngdeung-Po Police Department stated,

   “Daesung violated the rules for safe driving by not being able to see in front of him while driving at 80 km/h. If Daesung had in fact been driving at 80 km/h (where the speed limit was 60 km/h), it would be considered to be a speed limit violation. However, because that figure was part of Daesung’s testimony, in order to find out exactly how fast he was going, more investigation needs to be done.“

Meanwhile, the police are examining the accident in great detail, combing through certain facts like how the motorcyclist was already bleeding before Daesung’s accident, leading to a theory of a possible prior hit-and-run. According to the police, Daesung seemed to have not seen the motorcyclist because he was scrambling to brake when he saw the stopped taxi in front of him.

It’s been revealed that Daesung hadn’t been driving under the influence and that the taxi driver did not sustain any major injuries. After the accident, Daesung and the taxi driver underwent five hours of investigation by the authorities before returning home.

At the police station, Daesung said, “There was one car behind the taxi in the first lane. When both cars suddenly moved to the second lane, I couldn’t avoid hitting the taxi that had returned to the first lane to stop.”

The police revealed, “We plan to find the cause of the motorcyclist’s death. In order to determine if the motorcyclist had died due to Daesung’s car, we had requested a detailed analysis from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation and have obtained the CCTV footage from the area. We plan to investigate this scientifically.

When the motorcycle was found, it found standing more than 10m away from the motorcyclist. Whether this was due to a hit-and-run or another previous accident will be investigated with the Highway Department.”

It appears that results of the motorcycle analysis will take up to 7-10 days.

Daesung has received much shock due to this accident. A YG representative revealed, ”After finishing the police investigation at 7AM, Daesung has returned to his dorm with his manager.”

YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk said, “We will continue to follow the results that the police investigations reveal regarding the accident. Currently, Daesung’s distress is not due to his mistake, but due to his sorrow for the motorcyclist who died due to an accident.”

Though it sounds like right now, they aren't sure exactly what happened. Or the exact details and the hill makes it more understanding why people wouldn't be seeing anything. (For the speed violation, its bad, but far from unheard of). I do hope they figure out what happened to poor motorcyclist though.

From my understanding (from all articles combined) is that Daesung did indeed hit the motorcyclist who was lying on the ground (unconfirmed whether he was dead or not before). There was another car in front of Daesung who swerved away from the fallen cyclist at the last minute, and Daesung [who was behind him] ran into the fallen cyclist and the stopped taxi [who was calling for help].

I'm not sure if it's official, but according to SBS there won't be any criminal charges. Though they're sorting out the minor charges (speeding, negligence, and compensation to the victim's family had Daesung's hit killed the cyclist [it'll take 7 - 10 days to get results from the autopsy] )

Seeing as things are still unclear (an will be for a while), it would be a good idea for us all to sit tight and wait it all out.
My heart goes out to the motorcyclist and his family, I was really hoping the rumour that he was alive was true. What's worse is that I read somewhere that he was on his way to buying ddokboki for his pregnant wife :(

I also feel sorry for Daesung. He seems like a soft guy and I can't imagine the guilt he must be going through right now.

Also, this whole incident will definitely put a stigma to big bang. Whether Daesung is innocent or not, some people will grab any chance to hate but to be honest, that's the least of anyone's worries right now.

Same... I think it was like, Daesung driving behind the taxi, so he can't see the motorcyclist ahead like the taxi can. I just imagine myself driving behind a car-- you can't really see what's in front of them. If the car in front if you suddenly changes lanes cause something's in the road, the car behind has a lot less time to see it and react. I don't think daesung was driving recklessly. I think this whole thing is a very tragic accident. But yeah, like you said, all we can do is wait for the investigation. Im praying for the motorcyclist, their family, as well as Daesung. I've always gotten the feeling that he's the type to be kind to others but cruel to himself :(

I mean I guess you could say he was going really fast, but idk if you could put a number on it.

I worked in a court in my own country and this kind of accident is very common. About his guilty, we need to wait for the final investigation. But of course he had no intent of kill, and looks like the accident had no heavy neglect, as DUI or traffic signal violation.

The great victim here, we know, is the motorcyclist, who passed away. But I can’t ignore Dae Sung's emotional and mental state. All of us know the k-pop fandom very well; people love tragedies and love when tragedies happen with celebrities.

I just hope that Dae Sung, who, despite being rich or famous, is a human being and have feelings as all of us, be strong in this moment. I hope he has his family and friends by his side. And we, VIPs, need to stick together in this hard moment.

ok, so the general FACT is: the rider was injured in some type of way before dae sung's car came on the scene. AND dae was not drunk.

but:

1. if that road is in fact a sloping road, then YG is right in saying that drivers going downhill dont have their foot on the gas. and in my experience with driving, my foot is usually on/hovering over the because, obviously, cars speed up thanks to gravity when u go downhill.

2. dae TOLD the police officers what speed he was doing and they took that as FACT? it's just weird to me, unless dae was 100% sure, he should've said he wasnt sure at all. shock usually makes ppl indecisive and frantic...

3. how the fuck is the TAXI DRIVER going to kno what speed dae was going if he was facing forward in his car? right, he's not. and the damage done to the taxi and dae's car show's a pretty strong hit. there's no way to prove that...

but IA 100% with YG's stance that it's a complex case and should be treated as such. they shouldnt be quick to mercy because he's a celeb but they shouldn't be quick to punishment either.

BUT IF WE GO BY WHAT THE PO-PO SAYS:

1. they are confirming the part of YG's statement where it says that the speed given by dae was apart of his testimony and needs further investigation. if that was the case, they should've never released that number to the public in the first place. things such a EXACT SPEED shouldn't be left to be determined by a traumatized person, during a 5 hr question period after a 2 in the morning accident...just sayin'....

2. dae did not react in time to the presence of the body in the road. the taxi driver swerved out and back in to his lane in a matter of seconds. show of hands---how many of you would be searching for a body in the middle of the road? just sayin, i've been in a similar situation and literally found myself inches from a car in front of me because i was driving downhill, minding my own business, and the car in front of me swerved so suddenly---freaked me out... i had to slam on my breaks to keep from hitting the car in front of me, which stopped because we had reached a red light that when i last looked was still green...needless to say me and that swerved car had some words.

in general, this is one sucky ass situation...but i dont see anything wrong with absorbing as much information as we can right now. it's ridiculous to point fingers

does this mean that the two cars ahead of him saw the body on the ground, so they moved to the next lane? and as they moved, did daesung take this as an opportunity to overtake the other two cars that's why he went by 80kph and thereby running over the man and hitting the taxi (when it went back to the first lane)?

Yeah I was trying to make sense of that. I think both cab and other car changed lanes but the cab returned to the first lane, which Daesung hadn't expected thus colliding into the cab which hit the motorcyclist already on the road in front of the cab.

That's what I got out of the article, but you never know, it's all a mess, these statements. I seriously hope the CCTV footage clears this up.
