On May 30th, popular singer BoA celebrated her tenth anniversary since her Japanese debut, and she took the time to record a short message to fans for her official website!
Already 10 years into both her Japanese and Korean career, BoA has become a beloved veteran of the industry, and fans should look forward to the next 10 years as well!
“Hello everyone, it’s BoA! Today, May 30th, marks 10 years since I debuted in Japan. I think that it’s thanks to all the fans who supported me that I was able to reach such a wonderful day. On this site, there’s been a countdown until my 10th anniversary since about a month ago. I think that from now on a new 10 years has already begun, and I want to make it another 10 years of memories with everyone.”
For the past month, Avex has posted two polaroids a day that chronicled the history of her Japanese career including shots from the making of pvs, calendars, photoshoots, and concerts (however the pictures stem from only 2006-2010). Click here to browse through the gallery.

A special fan tribute video commemorating all 30 of her singles there from 2001-2010 have been put together to the bgm of her most recent digital single, ‘I SEE ME’. BoA herself has also seen the video, retweeting it on twitter.
Editorial by DareDB @ Koreaboo
When people refer to BoA, the following words come to mind: legendary, inspirational, talented, chameleon, phenomenal, queen, and the list could easily go on. 'BoA' has sometimes been refered to as a “backronym” for “Beat of Angel”, but others like to think the name stands for “Best of Asia”. Either way, BoA has an outstanding career at such a young age and has accomplished more in the last decade than few can ever even come close to in a lifetime.
Ten years ago, BoA released her very first single in Japan titled “ID; Peace B”, which was the Japanese version of her Korean debut single months prior. Fast forward to today, and we witness the first Hallyu star with a highly respectable career, with fans celebrating a decade of music that is truly legendary. In her decade in Japan, fans have watched her grow right before their eyes. BoA has released seven studio albums, two remix albums, two compilation albums, and thirty singles. Amazingly, this does not even include her collaboration singles as well as Korean and English material.
BoA has set the standard in Japan, becoming one of the pioneers of the Hallyu Wave to succeed in Japan as one of the first non-Japanese artists to top the charts and sell millions of records. She has distinguished herself as a truly remarkable dancer and an exceptional vocalist with the unique ability to connect with her audience, solidifying her as a leader and a seasoned pro in this generation of music in Asia. For someone who has been around for 10 years, the fact that the BoA still manages to make herself relevant and successful in the industry time and time again, really says something about her artistry. Her ability to take on any genre truly makes her one of the most versatile artists out there.
BoA is currently filming in Toronto for her upcoming dance movie “COBU 3D”. When she finally finishes, she plans to return to Japan and celebrate her 10 year anniversary in style with a possible comeback album and tour. The solo artist still has many great moments to come, as she is still young at the age of 24, where her stardom could possibly achieve a new level with a second attempt to break into the American market.
If you are unfamiliar with BoA’s Japanese catalog of music, here’s a look at her finest moments over the last decade. Covering nearly 30 of her greatest music videos and over 20 jaw-dropping live performances. Congratulations BoA! Here’s to another wonderful decade.

another wow-factor! I know BoA's voice is more on the thin side but her technique, omg. Busting out some difficult choreography and still hitting her notes flawlessly, HOW DO YOU DO IT?
I'm pretty sure that there's still plenty of room for her to grow and become an even more succesful solo act.

Date: 2011-05-30 11:10 pm (UTC)i never particularly loved her stuff, but growing up with korean music, i can get a sense of how much of an impact she had even her in australia. i miss the early 2000s, solo acts as much as groups, impressive singing and dancing without the heels and cute/sexy moves. i remember just five years ago any person listening to asian music would have like atlantic princess playing, i'd go into an asian store and it'd all be boa.
when she professes her longing for having been in a group, i feel sorry for her - nobody in eleven years, and her trainee period as well for that matter - really understood everything she was going through. but she's really too talented lulz.

Date: 2011-05-30 11:17 pm (UTC)Girl is fierce! I prefer her korean work more, but that's probably because her korean music was the music of hers I heard first and it makes me nostalgic. "My Name" is, well, my favorite.

Date: 2011-05-31 12:22 am (UTC)"Quincy" is my fave dance-song wise, and ballad-wise I'd say "Everlasting", though "Jewel Song" is such a classic it's automatically up there. And for some reason "Sweet Impact"'s choreo is really memorable to me too.

Date: 2011-05-31 03:22 am (UTC)BoA is my life. I have loved this girl ever since I saw the first shot of her in Jewel Song and she has been my favorite artist in ANY language since.
People need to respect that BoA was indeed the artist who STARTED the hallyu wave in Japan. Yes, her sales have gone down, and sometimes the music isn't exactly quality, but the people who are succeeding now are doing so because of the barriers that BoA broke.
Congratulations to you and your 10 years of Japanese pop-stardom, BoA! I love you!
Lets see... favorite Japanese BoA song is Jewel Song. Favorite Japanese BoA album is The Face.
