Infinite's Pia Magazine Interview
2011-05-27 06:03 pmAfter consistently on the run since their debut for a year, their thoughts.
Having made their debut last June, INFINITE has always maintained to create a hit. In being recognized as a rookie, they’re a group that hasn’t even made their official visit to Japan yet. And exactly a year after their debut in Korea, Infinite has promoted nonstop “TO-RA-WA,” “She’s Back,” “BTD,” “Hysterie,” and “Nothing’s Over” and we’re curious to see the various experiences they gained throughout the year.
[L] We made our debut with “TO-RA-WA” and since then have continuously promoted nonstop with “Nothing’s Over.” Thank you for your much support as we’re thankful and we hope to become an INFINITE that will continue to grow.
[Dongwoo] We’re already thankful enough for being able to make our debut and for us to be able to come this far is all thanks to our members and fans. Especially our fans, there’s countless times where we’re thankful for them. I feel that all of our fans have become one with us. It’s through the power of music.
[Everyone] Wow~ That’s a good way to phrase it~!
[Woohyun] We really gain a lot of strength from our fan club INSPIRITs.
[Sunggyu] I’m thankful for the members. I hope that we can continue to be with each other together. Since our debut, our teamwork has grown for the year that we’ve been together. Instead of just saying that we’ve grown and improved, it’s because we all worked hard together for all of us to have grown this much. (To the members) Thanks!!
[Sungjong] For me, I’m thankful for the hyungs who’ve lead me, the youngest. I think that we’re always improving step by step with each new song we release. We hope that we can live up to our name of Infinite and infinitely improve as we’ll work hard to do so.
[Hoya] Up to this point, you can think of it as us preparing for a year and from now on, we hope reach stealthily to higher points.
Last year, Infinite made its first appearance to the Hanllyu Pia was through your debut mini album “First Invasion” and then promoted with the follow-up song “She’s Back” (Released October and November of 2010). On January of 2011, the second mini album “Evolution” was released and the seven members have changed their image from boys to a more mature image, shocking those around them.
[Woohyun] The person who changed the most is our leader. He became very masculine. And our youngest Sungjong still has to grow more adult-like.
[Sungjong] But I grew in height. I’m growing!
[Woohyun] That’s true. You grew taller than me… (cries)
[Dongwoo] Now that I look at it, because of our constant changes of changing our style, our hair is rotting due to changing the color of it too often.
[Woohyun] I think my skin is slowly deteriorating. And it’s already starting with my wrinkles.
[Dongwoo] Woohyun, I think you have dark circles beneath your eyes too.
[Woohyun] Agh!!
The secret to the amazingly synchronized dance?
The scorpion dance of “BTD” from the mini album “Evolution” garnered much attention. As if watching it backwards, it is said that the idea of the dance was from Hoya.
[Hoya] Since we have a choreographer, our choreographer first made it and with my contributions of ideas here and there, I felt that we were making it together. Since our side is on the younger end, our ideas are more fresh (laughs).
[Sunggyu] I’m amazed by where Hoya gets his ideas from…
[Hoya] There’s a lot of them in here.
[Sunggyu] Where?
[Hoya] Here (points to the pocket on his chest).
[Everyone] (Laughs)
[Sungyeol] The scorpion dance and Sungjong…
[Sungjong] Ah~~! Don’t!
[Woohyun] There was a moment where he couldn’t get up (laughs).
[Dongwoo] Ah there’s a hidden story about Sungjong. During “BTD,” there was fire used and the fire caught onto Sungjong’s hair so we hurried and cut the hair that was burnt once we got down. Sungjong complained saying, “What do I do~~” and was in a state of panic but afterwards continued to follow through with the performance just dine.
[Sungjong] I have a lot of mistakes… I’ve slid on stage once while wearing shoes that slid easily on stage..
When talking about INFINITE, the group is known for having the 7 members perfectly in sync with their “synchronized dance.”
[Woohyun] On days we don’t have schedules, we practice dancing for about 18 hours. Even on days we do have schedules, we practice when we can.
[Dongwoo] The secret to being synchronized is to know one another well. We feel each other and since we can’t understand one another if we don’t agree on something, we often touch each other to get for us to understand. In order to know how one thinks, we talk a lot. Anyway, we’re thinking of various methods and executing them in order to understand how the other feels in order to become one.
[Woohyun] We even know what each other are thinking just by looking at their eyes and what we should do.
[Sunggyu] (Looking at Woohyun’s eyes) Right now, your upper stomach is in a bad condition, right?
[Woohyun] How’d you know!? Of course!
[Everyone] (Explodes into laughter)

Date: 2011-05-28 05:27 am (UTC)Starting their series of promotions starting in the next issue!
During March of this year, Infinite released their 1st single “Inspirit” with the refreshing song ‘Nothing’s Over” filled with pastel tone colors, surprising fans yet again from such a different image of the dark world they showed through “BTD.”
[L] Promotions for “Nothing’s Over” is the most memorable one for the year. I could have done better when we first started off promotions and when we were gearing towards ending it, it was then that I was getting the hang of it which left me a lot of disappointing feelings.
[Sunggyu] But what I was really glad about during this promotion was the growth of L’s vocals. At first, he was off pitch and it looked like he was having a hard time but through much effort, he was able to overcome it. Seeing that side of him made me really happy and proud.
[Woohyun] Yeah. I think L grew the most through this song.
[L] I learned to enjoy the stage through this song.
[Sunggyu] For me, it was “Hysterie.” It was upsetting that we only performed it on stage 3 times since “BTD” was the main song we were promoting for the mini album “Evolution.”
[Woohyun] For me, I liked “BTD” and “TO-RA-WA.” The reason is because4 it has the “epitome of masculinity” image (it’s explained as the “man of all men” keke).
[Hoya] I think “BTD” fit me the best. I felt good that I was able to show everything I’ve stacked on top of one another to the audience.
[Sungyeol] For me, it was “TO-RA-WA” since it’s not too bright but not too dark. Doesn’t this feeling fit me?
[Sungjong] For me, I think bright songs fit me better than cool songs, so I like “Nothing’s Over.”
INFINITE was able to feel at ease through their year of promotions. Also, their method of making their debut in Japan by having their CDs for rent at TSUTAYA, the biggest rental business, is a rare case. They’ve released the songs “TO-RA-WA,” “She’s Back,” “Hysterie,” and “Nothing’s Over.” Not only have they snagged the spots of being the ending songs of Japanese TV programs, but the 4 songs also received the light in placing 1st on a major mobile site in the K-POP download section. And now in July, they will release a best album which consists of their promoted songs as well as 2 additional songs and will carry on with their first showcase in Japan. “Hanllyu Pia” will be watching out for them and will release the aftermath of the interview in the next issue, so anticipate it as the series begins!
