After 2NE1 scored an instant ‘all-kill’ on online music charts with the release of their newest track, “Lonely”, many of their fans began to wonder whether they would be able to watch the group perform their soothing ballad track live on music and public music show programs, despite CEO Yang Hyun Suk stating they would not be performing on public TV programs.

However, it has been re-confirmed by Yang Hyun Suk himself that he will remain true to his word – 2NE1 will not be standing on stage to undergo active promotions for the song.

As a replacement, however, 2NE1 are set to recreate and perform modified versions of the song through YG’s online show, “YG ON AIR“.

Yang Hyun Suk stated, “This is my own personal opinion, but it’s a bit sad that for the past ten years, talented singers have been restricted to the exact same stage, exact same camera angles, and exact same format to perform their songs. This method doesn’t allow for each of the artists to fully express their true talents and music.”

“A solution to this problem lies behind the popularity of shows like ‘I Am a Singer‘. In contrast to popular music programs, ‘I Am a Singer’ utilizes unique stages and top-class sound systems, which make not only singers, but also fans, to focus solely on the music, and thus making it a more enjoyable show to watch.”

He continued, “Because of these reasons, 2NE1 will not be standing on stage of music programs for their song ‘Lonely’, just like how Park Bom didn’t perform ‘Don’t Cry‘. Instead, 2NE1 will be revealing a different version of ‘Lonely’ every Friday night on ‘YG ON AIR’.”

“Through ‘YG ON AIR’, 2NE1 will be doing performances in whatever style they like it to be, made to their hearts’ content. Fans who come to watch ‘YG ON AIR’ for 2NE1’s performances will surely be able to focus purely on the group’s music.”

The CEO concluded, “2NE1 will need to perform title tracks on music programs, but we’re only thinking of one performance a week for the time being.”

Yeah I've seen a couple of their live performances and it's pretty unfortunate how not very in control of her voice she gets :/

It's softer than the others, but weak isn't bad. It's just that kpop seems to prefer belters or such *shrugs* IMO she'd be more suited to softer songs but I guess YG wanted some diversity in 2NE1. Which I find admirable.

Didn't the girls do It Hurts live acapella on the radio once? I could swear I saw a video floating around.

Glory Glory YG you got exactly what I've been thinking. Sure it's cool to have a live action TRL and everything but 3 nights in a row every week of the same exact think is pretty darn boring. I'd rather see 3 different shows and tons of singers then 3 of the same. One can do dancing, one can have ballads, and one can have pop. Give alt/indie performers a stage, you can even have one for the old fogies, instead of dragging them out for gayos only. Those weekly award are pretty lame if you ask me. Let's see some performances not a trophy for who had the most sales that week.

+1 so much! I for one don't get why they have 3 variations on the same show. Gets old, not just for the viewers but most certainly for the performers themselves, for sure.

Wow.. cutting out the middleman completely! I admire that and can't wait to see what they can bring to the stage. Now if only JYJ does that too... hmmmm

I am loving YG on air and am excited to see what they do next. One show a week is quite enough.

I completely agree with YG. Seeing the same performance 3 times a week is so boring. Having the girls sing in the style they want is good.

This is a pretty serious and bold move to make, but I think with 2NE1 they will survive it.

But the girls started w/ one show a week so I think they'll be fine. Plus with YG on air and 2NE1tv season 3, it's not like they won't be seen around. They'll just be promoting through those shows instead

lol damn I can feel this man just struggling to prove that he and his artists are different. They're DIFFERENT dammit and he wants everyone to know it with every word he breathes.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. I agree with him, but it doesn't apply to his company and artists.

i know what you mean, YG singers are no better musically than many other idols groups but you have to admire their success despite the fact that YG markets them very differently. they're not overexposed on silly variety/talk shows every week but still remain at the top. i don't think he's trying to push a "my idols are DIFFERENT!!!" idea so much as really change the idol/music industry through the singers in his company.

i love the music shows, because not only do i get to see the artists perform, but i also get to see them interact with other artists from different companies. i like that sense of community between the idols especially since they're somewhat connected to each other one way or another.

however yg has a point. he wants to give his artists different ways to express themselves and this can only be good for his artists. and it'll probably be more cost effective, too. there are definitely some pros and cons to this, but in the long run, it's a good start at trying new things to promote their music.

I agree. Music shows gives artist a chance to interact with others and it gives them more exposure Whereas only 2ne1/Big Bang/YG fans would watch yg on air. But yeahh it's a great idea and it's good to see all the fanciness that go with normal performances stripped off for a change. 1 music show and 1 YG air a week would be the perfect balance imo.

and they don't have to appear in chart shows. there are music shows like sketchbook (i think that's the name) that they can appear in. i hope they don't go cold turkey on music shows.

YG is a smart guy. his agency truly differs from the other ones because he doesn't seem to train and produce new singers/artists/songs as if they were lil products in a factory. he has a small amount of artists and really seems to take care of them and nurture them: he obviously looks for TALENT and then allows a fair amount of freedom in the creation process: whether it's styling, composing, eating, etc...it seems like the YG artists have more freedom once they prove to be worthy of it. they also don't seem to be living in poor conditions/with low income or low amounts of sleep/food. AND YG obviously doesn't care for the ~ideal~ beauty: big bang and 2ne1 both break away from the whole korean "ideal beauty" crap that so many other agencies conform to by making their artists get plastic surgeries and all that crap.

gj YG.

please don't tell me that music program for your planned once-a-week performance won't be inkigayo only, if yg continues his inki-whoring he's doing a good job further alienating himself from the other broadcast companies, even if he shows full support for mbc's i am a singer.

I like YG ON AIR and the concept, but only fans will watch it, or maybe some curious people, so in term of widden their public etc... that's weird for a promo. But let's see what they will bring for the upcoming songs.
