After announcing next single, "Energetic", off her 1st U.S. album 'BoA' at VMA Japan with Sean Garrett, BoA has even more news for us! According to her Official MySpace bulletin, BoA will have an interview broadcasted on NBC's Extra on Saturday at 3PM PST and Sunday 12:35AM PST.

"Hi USA! I will be on Extra this wknd [weekend]. Check out [your] local NBC channel. Airing in LA Sat 3pm & Sun 12:35am [PST]."

Check here for your local listing on NBC and make sure to catch BoA on your television! Extra has already uploaded a video of a never-seen-before full rehearsal of "Look Who's Talking". Just go to Extra TV's video section and click on "Watch BoA's Raw Rehearsal".

It seems that BoA is finally "Energetic" and on the move with some major events in place. Not only will being on Extra give her a boost for her U.S. takeover, performing live at the San Francisco Pride 2009 in front of thousands of people will definitely allow people to recognize her talent as an artist. Since BoA signed up with one the top talent agency in the U.S., CAA, they have paved and cleaned the road for her entry in the U.S.

Other Korean singers and actors have also tried to make their way into the U.S. industry this year, such as Wonder Girls, Se7en, Rain ("Speed Racer", "Ninja Assassin"), Daniel Henney ("X-Men: Wolverine"), Byung Hun Lee ("G.I. Joe"), and Joon Park ("DragonBall Evolution"). Wonder Girls, surprisingly, have already been signed up with CAA since October of 2008. As a result, they are the opening act of the Jonas Brothers concert tour this year and will have their U.S. album release after the tour, which has songs written by the Jonas Brothers themselves. Now that BoA is with CAA, what kind of "hook-ups" can we anticipate BoA to have in the future? Maybe a little Justin Timberlake?

The U.S. is now the new battlefield for the three top Korean entertainment companies. Who will make it first in the U.S.? YG Entertainment with Se7en? JYP Entertainment with Wonder Girls? Or SM Entertainment with BoA?

hmmm it was short and her speaking was a bit awkward, but at least they picked good shots of her MV to show?

I wonder if she's pissed that Wonder Girls get to tour with Jonas Brothers (not that they're amazing or whatever, but they are very popular) and she doesn't get that kind of a promotional leg-up.

Oh I know...not specifically JoBros per se, but an artist along similar levels of popularity.

Touring with the Jonas ew would be a step down for her. She's not a little kid; hence she shouldn't be opening for a bunch of brats kids. WG are young girls, so it's more appropriate.

From: [identity profile] akaich0u.livejournal.com
I definitely agree that BoA is ten times more fierce than any Jonas can hope to be, but I was hoping that she'd get the same level of promotion--that is, touring with a very popular artist.

BoA should hit it up with others, hopefully artists like JT or Timbaland. There has been rumours of her working with Timbaland, and he's done well for some careers (Nelly, JT, Aaliyah R.I.P.) and horrible for others (Utada). Nevertheless, hopefully she'll be put up with artists in her own age group.

Moreover, I can almost guarantee WG are gonna flop horribly. While they are also from a popstar generating machine, they still can't win against the ultimate idol generating machine, Disney which, magically, in my lifetime, went from a cute cartoon corp to an evil corporation from hell. I actually think with their age, cute image, WG would have done well in Japan, but ah...people loves that huge American market. Little do they know North America is still pretty racist, especially towards Asians.

Date: 2009-06-08 04:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] akaich0u.livejournal.com
I don't think North America is RACIST, per se. I just think NA is incredibly lazy. Like, if the artist is not EVERY. SINGLE. PLACE. YOU. LOOK., they won't buy into it (such as Utada Hikaru's case and her weird, next-to-little promotion). Also, if the artist doesn't speak English well enough, I don't think NA will put forth the effort to understand/listen to them (such as BoA's case). There's also the reason of geographic isolation--Japan is more supportive of Korean artists 'cause they're literally next door. There are more opportunities for tours here and promotion there, etc.

But anyway, yeah, I think WG will flop too, which is a shame because unlike the generic shit Disney churns out, they can actually sing. Sigh...

Oh, North America is still very racist. It's an institutional and cultural thing that will take a while to tone down. I am going to assume you are Asian, but not in the work force, so trust me, it's there. Once you get out into the real world you start realizing who's really who, and who has the power. I also study Sociology, emphasis on Media and Ethnics, hence I know the stats. The "white man's bias" still exists everywhere. It's gotten better, for sure, but for Asians, seriously, it's pretty bad. Simply look at all the Asian actors in the U.S.; it's impossible for Asians to get jobs. The entertainment business is a really good indicator. You can count the number of Asians on major American networks on two hands: B.D. Wong from SVU, Kim Yujin from Lost, Sandra Oh from Grey's Anatomy, and Masi Oka and James Kyson Lee from Heroes. Even in movies, Asians are given exotic roles, or the role of villains or secondary characters. Caucasians are always preferred: like the change of Goku in the Dragon Ball: Evolution movie, and in the upcoming "Avatar: The Last Airbender" movie, Aang, an obviously Asian character, is played by a Caucasian as well. The conditions have gotten a little better, but not my much.

Well, WG are fun, I don't know much about the singing. They're good for entertainment purposes. They're cute and fun, and make feel good music. I like them, but honestly speaking, many Disney artists *vomits* do have better trained vocals.

Well, I suppose for the entertainment industry, I can't speak for Asians. I'm a Pre-Dentistry major in college right now, and as for the Asian workforce in health care, I can say that we are thriving. Still, I wouldn't say "racist" toward Asian entertainers...maybe more along the lines of close-minded.

IMO WG sing a lot better than Demi or Miley, like in here (their part starts at 1:10):

The medical industry is about the only place Asians can do well. Everywhere else, it's glass ceiling, glass ceiling, glass ceiling: Asians are in no positions of actual power. Honey, that is institutional racism. It's in the structure of society, and it has to do with culture. Close-minded is not wanting to try a new food because it looks yucky. Racism is about power, and those in power certainly don't want to give it up. Just look at the crap they are give Sotomayor, and she's Latina! Asians need to start realizing that it ain't all peachy, because we get the short end of the stick all time.

WG's gotten better overtime, but their vocals are still a little shaky. I love them, seriously, I do, but vocally, they are just at par.

I suppose...but I don't think any country is perfect. Personally, I am happy in the US, but I think more can be done, definitely. :)

Disney took a giant page from SM's books. It began with the Mickey Mouse Club, and now it's gone on to the hideousness of High School Musical *gag* and the horror that is Miley Cyrus. That girl makes me want to emigrate to a different country where I don't have to deal with her.

>_< I know I'm not supposed to and shouldn't hate her, because it's stupid and illogical, but I hate her. And I've never hated a celebrity. EVER. Usually I view celebrities as animals in a zoo, because, really, in NA, that's what they are, and you just can't hated animals in a zoo. You feel bad for them, all trapped and caged and stuff. But Miley. God. I just honestly hate her and am tired of seeing her on my television and on my radio. The girl's voice seriously gets on my nerves. She's another Britney waiting to happen.

Her, the Jonases, and emo music is exactly 90% of all my music is now some derivative of Asian (KPop, CPop, JPop & JRock). Miley, honey, don't try to be "realz". You came out of an idol machine. Disney = SM, JYP, and YG. They are all the same. And it disgusts me. Thank god for indie music and those that still remember how to sing *hugs Christina*. She's trampy, but she has a killer voice.
