'The nation's little sister' IU is hooked on figure skating practice.

A spokesperson from IU's agency met with reporters on the 4th and expressed, "IU can't set aside specific times to practice, but whenever she can find spare time between her schedules, she is really practicing hard."

On May 3rd, IU, together with other celebrities, had their first profile shoot for the SBS Program, "Kim Yuna's Kiss and Cry". Currently undergoing intensive training in ice skating, they are now able to put on their skates and adopt natural poses and give mature impressions. In particular, on this day, IU put on her skates and adopted a relaxed pose while balancing on one foot.

The production crew also revealed, "Initially, IU absolutely could not ice skate, but now her skill has improved so much that she can even balance on one foot." They also added, "She herself is putting in a considerable amount of effort and making quick progress as a result."

It was previously revealed that Kim Yuna, being a fan of IU, also recommended her for the show. According to the PD of the program, Kim Yuna enjoys listening to and singing IU's songs. On an episode of the SBS program 'Kim Jung Eun's Chocolate' broadcasted last year, when Kim Yuna appeared on the show, she sang IU's "Riding on a Train" and considers herself to be an 'IU fan'.

During the shoot on May 3rd, Kim Yuna and IU met for the first time as mentor and mentee. On this day, one of the studios at the Ilsan SBS Production Centre was remodeled into a skating rink to record interviews with the members on the show. It is also rumoured that Kim Yuna showcased her vocal skills by singing IU's "Riding on a Train" again during their first meeting, which lightened the mood during filming. The production crew stated, "Although it was their first meeting, it felt like they had known each other for a long time. There was no awkwardness at all as and filming went smoothly" and "Kim Yuna was quite satisfied with what she saw of the skills everyone had mastered so far."

Yeah... she gets called out for it in the figure skating community for her lack of leg extension but Yu-na's torso and arms (especially) are quite extended in comparison to the average non-skater/beginning and this picture just highlights that :3

Right now I think IU's schedule is pretty balanced - two fixed appearances on variety shows and hosting for Inkigayo, though I'm worried what'll happen once she makes her comeback later in the summer. Either way, it's not as busy as during December/January when she was filming Dream High, shooting Heroes, promoting on music programs, and taking part in the endless year-end shows. I feel like over-exposure isn't a problem as long as she also releases music - Beast was overworked in 2010 and it paid off, so. I'm looking forward to both Kiss & Cry and Immortal Song 2. :)

Kinda OT but it's quite interesting to note (despite the criticisms of otherwise in the skating community itself) how extended Yu-na's arms and body truly are in comparison to your average non-skater. Also, I kinda wish she wouldn't appear as a judge on the show... considering she's already got the Pyeongchang Winter Olys bid up 'till July 6 and potentially competitive season starting in late October :( Sighs, overworked girls the both of them...

Am an IU stan for life but i kind of loled when I read now her skill has improved so much that she can even balance on one foot. because that was pretty much the first thing i learned when i picked up figure ice-skating. I guess she took a while to get the basics then.... i have so many friends who are terrified of ice-skating but the trick is not to be and just have fun falling down on your first go... you'll pick it up much faster like that.
