OP's Note: After JYJ's concert which was held last Saturday in Taipei Arena, Taiwan, someone found letters and gifts from Taiwanese fans, which had been promised to be sent to the members by promoter of the concert - Broker Brothers Herald (BBH), were being left at recycling area in the Arena. Fans were reported in here and here (from 13:40) that they felt very sad and disappointed. Then BBH left a statement regarding of this incident.

A Notice on the Controversy Surrounding JYJ’s Fan Gifts

Dear Cassiopeia, this is our response to the reports in the media accusing JYJ of throwing away fan gifts indiscriminately. In brief, this is what happened:

In the 3 hours from before the show till the end of the show, our staff had sent in approximately 200 gifts and cards packed more than 10 large boxes to the CJES waiting room. The manager could not have handled all the fan gifts alone so he instructed the 4 bodyguards to assist him in classifying the gifts. There about 5 boxes of approximately 70 items, which were not selected, these items were entrusted to us to handle. The more than 100 items selected were carried by their entourage onto the coaches to transport back to the hotel for the artistes to pick personally. It is true that the CJES manager was the person responsible for the screening of the fan gifts, as to whether he picked the gifts based on value or individual taste, it was not our place to question and we also did not wish to question. We are only the middlemen in this case.

All the waiting rooms in the Taipei Arena had to be cleared out and locked by 12 midnight. We moved all the 70 odd items that were not selected out and had our staff pack them into 5 large boxes. These were then sent to the recycling area in the Taipei Arena. Around 1:30am when the staff responsible for the clearing out of the Taipei Arena left the venue, they reminded the workers from the stage dismantling crew that there were around 10 pairs of blue and white slippers, some cushions, seat cushions, stuffed dolls and mugs that fans had given to JYJ but were not selected by the Korean staff, if they had use for these items, they could bring them home so the items won’t be wasted. When the last member of BBH’s staff left the Taipei Arena at around 1:30am, the 5 large boxes of fan gifts were still neatly packed in their boxes. Someone had deliberately rummaged through the boxes and then took photographs of the disheveled sight and uploaded them after we had left. The person(s) who had done this obviously is either intending to portray our company in a negative light or meant to hurt the feelings of the Cassiopeia and destroy their faith and support of JYJ. Cassiopeia can try to trace the person who uploaded the photographs and question that person’s intentions. It is fine if that person just wants to cast suspicions on BBH, we only hope that he is not trying to destroy the feelings the Cassiopeia have for JYJ.

We were ineffectual in preempting the actions of these people with ulterior motives and we apologize to everyone about this. However, we did pass the fan gifts to the Korean management, fulfilling our responsibilities. As to the gifts that the Korean staff did not wish to bring back, we could only choose to throw them away. According to our past experiences with Japanese and Korean artistes, you should refrain from sending flowers, food, drinks or items that take up too much space. After all when touring they have a lot of luggage and props to transport and have to avoid additional weight to the artistes’ burdens. Furthermore, Korean artistes have had the horrible experience of being poisoned before and therefore all gifts of food and drink are declined. The blue and white slippers or very creative Taiwanese handicrafts should be avoided too as due to cultural differences they will not consider bringing these gifts back. We will stop all enquiries on JYJ related questions with the end of this concert, we hope that the Cassiopeia will continue to support JYJ fully with all their love. In order t show our support for JYJ, we will not be working with SM artistes. There were many imperfections during the course of this concert, we will learn from this experience and work hard towards hosting JYJ’s Taiwan concert 2 years later. Thank you everyone.

Understandable.
They can't keep every little thing fans give them.

well-explained i guess. but wow, whoever rummaged through the gifts and made them look like that is just.... idk what to say. some people have all the time in their hands.

something else caught my attention: "In order to show our support for JYJ, we will not be working with SM artistes." to that extent? maybe this is something i don't know, but has every company that has worked with jyj wouldn't work with sm artists?

I am not surprised that someone would take the time to do all that just to make the company and JYJ look bad.

Even though time and money is wasted on the food and drinks I'm glad they decline those, I always worry when I see some idols eating food that fans make for them. You can never be too sure.

Trying to think of what cultural differences this gift could offend or be useless towards and I'm coming up with a blank. ._.

Tbh, what fans should learn when sending gifts to artists is that do it at your own risk. Sure, we all like our gifts to be received by our oppas/unnies; but I hope we will keep at the back of our minds that there's a greater chance that our presents won't be received and/or kept.

Kinda sucks to know they keep all the fancy expensive stuff and have to do away with the rest. But really with them having to fly everything back and forth did people expect them to hold onto everything. i wouldn't take food either it's just too risky with allergies, poison etc. Maybe through this fans can send different gifts that will all be kept. Like an ipad2 and cards MV's etc. digitized.

Cassiopeia can try to trace the person who uploaded the photographs

YOU'RE IN DANGER GIRL/BOY.

anyway, whoever did that was really horrible. he even wasted his time trying to make the company and JYJ look bad. whoever you are, try harder. I felt sad for the fans because the fan-gifts should/must be selected...

I don't understand why fans are always upset when idols left gifts behind. It's not like they have time to open every box and take everything home.

I dont know calling someones gift useless is a bit..but whoever rummaged and left that mess needs a life. Can I just wake up one day and not read controversy regarding JYJ.

No offense to any gift givers, but artists like JYJ have so much shit as is, you're better off doing yourself a favor and spending money on YOURSELF rather than them. :\ I dunno, it just boggles my mind about the whole gift-giving thing... They have so much stuff already. I don't get why fans just don't use their money on themselves, or, their parents or someone who really matters.

maybe fans should consider keeping their money and using it for something of importance or, oh i dunno, if they're so eager to give it out maybe donating to charity?

tbh, if i'd spent money on an idol and had my gift thrown out i'd just wonder why i was stupid enough to spend money on that when i could've used it for something more useful :/

The only thing I bring to concerts is my camera (and other stuff but nothing as gifts), besides I never got to seat/or stand near enough to fling anything to them anyway.

THE CONTROVERSY ABOUT TAIWAN FAN GIFTS

regarding the controversy on taiwan fans' gifts for jyj, they found out thru cctv that it's a stage lighting part-time worker who took the notorious trash can picture. taipei concert promoter bbh is considering either to ask for the person's explanation on the matter or to take legal action against him. meanwhile, taiwan fans have already fund raised nt$200,000 to put up an ad on newspapers to clear up jyj's reputation
