Idol group BIGBANG’s Japan tour faced with strong opposition from their fans. BIGBANG is scheduled to have their Japan tour on May 10th and 11th in Osaka, and from May 13th till 15th, they will hold the concerts in Makuhari Messe.

Moreover, they will also hold concerts in Nagoya on May 17th and 18th. That means a total of 7 concerts will be held according to the the original plan. However, on 11th of March, an earthquake of 9.0 magnitude occurred in the north east part of Japan. Afterwards, tsunamis hazards emerged together with the threats of radiation explosions.

The whole Japan is facing emergency situation. Even though the Japanese government has spared all of their efforts in dealing with the critical situation, the nuclear radiation threat from Fukushima is still hard to be contained. A number of Japan concerts has already been cancelled.

Since BIGBANG is believed to be holding their tour as planned, fans have expressed their opposition to it. YG Entertainment said they would only hold the tour in the safe regions instead of the dangerous ones. However, the fans said it is of no difference between the safe regions and dangerous regions at this period of time.

The fans commented, "Since there is a danger like this, we should put the safety of the singer on the top of the list." "Since Japanese are facing such kind of tragic incidents at the moment, I wonder whether they would still be interested in appreciating the concerts." "How do you distinguish the dangerous and safe regions in Japan?" and "It is the duty of the entertainment company to discuss with Universal Japan to decide whether to cancel or postpone the tour."

They have also commented ,"Other celebrities have also cancelled their concerts there so what is the point of insisting BIGBANG’s?" The decision has aroused a lot of criticisms from the fans.

I'd cancel it. A few Japanese artists have been getting criticism for continuing with their activities from newspapers like no natural disaster happened.

I don't see why they couldn't postpone/pushback the dates with rainchecks, I'm sure people would understand.

I'm thinking the Japanese company needs to be the one to pull the plug. Really, I wonder how much control does YG have over the Japanese co. that Big Bang is signed under?

now im just wondering if they're not cancelling it for the reason that it would screw up their 'plans' for the year

OP - there is a response from YG Entertainment regarding this issue if you want to edit it into your post

Posting the response as a new article sounds like a good idea. I've never posted anything on Omona though so I'm not the best person to give opinions on that, lol.

I'm always afraid that I'd mess it up somehow, but maybe I'll give it a try sometime :)

I've been meaning to thank you for submitting the articles you do! So thank you ^^

Sounds like some people don't actually understand what does on in nuclear power plants and what's happening now.

They should be amazed at the fact that a plant built around the same time as the Chernobyl plant managed to survive one of the worst recorded earthquakes and tsunamis with minimum damage, and the fact that scientists are successfully cooling them without power. But a plus on the side of nuclear power turns into a big minus when everyone thinks that The Hills Have Eyes is happening RIGHT NOW. :C

the final decision whether we will still carry out the same schedule depends on our contract with the company in Japan since the company has the authority to do so.

seems like its not completely in YG control. Idk, it seems like its would be better all round to postpone it imo

They should have canceled it right after the disaster. It would have been at least politically correct.
But the fans....seriously they are.... idek. The security of who? Artists? Losing interest because of the disaster? Who cares rn? It's japanese and japan's security that you have to put on first. Gdi...

yeah, worrying about their oppas who are not even close to be theatened and not about the people affected in japan. who would maybe be grateful for a fun concert to give them strength through these hard times..../ ridiculous. -.-

actually i think it would be hard on japanese fans to not see them tbh. they actually would deserve this because there's nothing wrong in cities like osaka. it is debatable as to wether it is a good idea to go further into affected areas because there are still huge venues that provide shelter for the affected ones, such as saitama super arena. and yeah the radiation thing is something to worry about but not entirely the horror international media makes it to be.

ia the Japanese fans need something to get their minds off of the disaster, not more reminders of the tragedy. Plus this whole radiation scare is being extremely exaggerated, according to my friends in Tokyo life is normal and the people who are panicking are either foreigners or a very small minority of Japanese people.

not to mention they're all losing weight, sleep etc because they're rushing to get the new album promos done before the tour.

i really don't see why they should have to cancel it, if they're having the concerts in cities like osaka that haven't been as effected and everything is business as usual, there's no reason why they should have to cancel. i don't see it as them ~ignoring the disaster~, but more like an acknowledgement that life will continue to go on after something bad happens. but eh, i'm half the world away, so i probably know jack.

they could be like Johnny's concerts and figure out how to hold the concert with only 30% of the planned power. Sure special effects are nice, but not always required for an amazing show.

i think they want to cancel it but YG doesn't have a lot of power or say in their Japanese activities..YG/BB is waiting for Universal to make a decision if they continue or not with the concert and they have not said anything until now.. that's what i understand from YG's response...

Well, f.cuz rescheduled their shows for May, I think most people are assuming things will be more back to normal by then in terms of the power rationing. As some people have commented, Kansai is on a totally different grid so it hasn't been affected, so at worst they would have to just do the shows there. The fear-mongering about radiation is just horrible... it's just coming from everywhere these days.

"Since there is a danger like this, we should put the safety of the singer on the top of the list."

i am seriously side-eyeing this.

other than that, i think that if they still want to proceed with the concert, maybe they could do an unplugged or something. might as well help save the electrical powers.

I live in Tokyo right now, and I can say.. I think they should postpone it.
Most concerts here are being met with a lot of criticisms.. and even though I want to see them again here in Japan, I think they should wait.
Here in tokyo things are going fine, but conbini.. train stations.. everyone is trying their best to save electricity and its just not the time of a concert in my opinion.
(of course if they dont cancel I would still going >.<,,,)

However, the fans said it is of no difference between the safe regions and dangerous regions at this period of time.

Side-eyeing so much. Nagoya and Osaka are perfectly safe. Even Tokyo is safe. If they cancel it should be to save power, not because of some imagined risk to the performers' health. And even then, Osaka and probably Nagoya can't really share their power with east Japan because of the grid differences, so.

On a semi-related note, has anyone heard if SM Town plans to go ahead in the Dome next month? That would surely burn a shitload of electricity, plus I imagine the Dome is being used for people to stay in and stuff...(I have tickets and I still haven't heard anything about cancellation, which is surprising)

Just disclaiming myself because it occurs to me that people may want to jump all over for my comments, I'm not against canceling the concerts. I'm against canceling for the wrong reasons, ie., the mistaken perception that Japan is on the verge of catching on fire then sliding into the ocean.

To cancel to allow Japan time to grieve, or so that other fans may be less worried. Japanese fans would be happy to se Big Bang, and well, I think they need all the happiness they can get.

the Japanese don't have time for stuff like this right now
do it at a later date when things are more certain and settled and the people are ready

okay natural disasters arfe going to happen anywhere at any given time. to me bigbangs music brings happiness and right now japanese people need all the love they can get so i dont see why they shouldnt yg responded to saying that not only does he want bigbang to be safe but also the company that bigbang is under in japan and vips in japan and if they are taking all the precautiones in the world i dont see why not *music helps the soul heal* so in my opinion a lot of people are living in the past. japan will always be an earthquake hazard, imagen if bigbang had to go to indonseia after the tsunami then yg would have to be on drugs to let that happen.
