"I'm a small volcano. The silent tension before the lava erupts, the energy the moment it explodes, the scorching transformation afterward…. I think of this as my own unique identity."
Debuted at 13 years old, 63 albums released*. However BoA is only 24 years old this year. Perhaps that is why, but she is the ideal of 'mature youth' and 'passion and control' and through experience has acquired a rare combination. Our Venus BoA, who is armed with a mind of perfect proportions, stood in front of the Cosmo camera 3 days before taking off for the filming of her Hollywood movie. In order to visually show 4 keywords that represent herself with makeup artist Jung Saem Mul.
"Makeup artist Director Jung Saem Mul, who has watched over me for a long time, said this: 'You stand out no matter what type of situation you're in.' Well, no two people in the world are the same. One by one, they're each unique. Even if we put on the same makeup and take the same pictures, they will all be different. However, because of that I try to have more confidence. As I cannot become somebody else, somebody else cannot become me so this cut is from a shoot which I partook in with the resolve of expressing my own unique sound. Because this type of face, this type of expression can only be made by BoA."
"I think 'Energetic BoA' is when something I want to express reaches out diversely like flowing water in an unrestrained environment like in these pictures. Typically the word energetic corresponds with things such as emission and manifestation. However I think my energy is a bit different. Perhaps it is strength that simmers up from the inside. Moderation and control, what they say is a type of accumulated knowledge of conduct. For example, professional senses must be developed and although I react very sensitively I don't analyze that. After acknowledging and accepting it just as it was felt, it goes through a filter called BoA and then goes out naturally to the world. That is my music and my life."
"As you know I have released many albums and have stood on stage with numerous song titles. And every time I put forth much effort to have a new transformation to suit the image of each song. I don't think that succession of steps was simply made only with a slightly different idea, concept, or change in expression. Because I am a 'person who does music' who must express the emotions that the songs which I sing make me feel. Tens of thousands of different songs transform me on their own."
"I agree that my career history being a tad different from that of others my age influenced me quite a bit in regards to maturing faster. However, what is certain is that I am still young now and am in wonderment at how every year is different. Maturity is not something that has a point of completion or an end. Learning a lot, I think of that as maturity. So in the future I want to continue developing. I feel like the moment you stop learning you're giving up on yourself. I think that even after I become much older this type of thought won't change."
