Multi-cultural Video Broadcasting has launched in North America, MVIBO.com, a video on demand (VOD) service offering Korean content including dramas, movies, clips and music videos.

MVIBO.com has been established by KBS America, a Los Angeles-based company that provides KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) programmes in North America and aims to promote cultural ties between South Korea and the United States.

The service is designed to provide high-quality streaming video from Korean broadcasters including KBS, SBS and MBC, popular movies, and K-POP music videos from YG and JYP Entertainment. All programmes are licensed directly from the broadcast companies and come with English subtitles.

The website aims to encourage user interaction with its community talk forms, online contest participation and areas for comments and suggestions.

“It’s not only the dramas, but a larger variety of Korean entertainment, like movies and K-POP, where all these materials formulate into the success of Hallyu (the Korean Wave),” said Chunai Choi, CEO and president of KBS America. “We are continually developing ways to enhance entertainment and interaction by expanding ‘Multi-cultural Video Broadcasting’ to everyone of different backgrounds.”

Most media content on MVIBO.com is open and free to the public with free registration. Viewers can also obtain exclusive access to full series of drama episodes with the purchase of points or, for unlimited access, can buy the Premium Service for $11.99 per month.

Yeah DramaFever is free. It's good but they do take a while to come out with subs :(

I don't think $11.99 is much for a month if they provide a high quality service (IF). I think a big factor would also be the speed. They would need to be pretty quick with the English subs if I wanted to use this service (not that I can anyway, WHY ONLY NORTH AMERICA?!!).

I wonder if this has anything to do with Comcast/Xfinity?? I was searching through tv shows on their Fancast website (which rules and is totally free if you're a Comcast subscriber) and I saw they had a bunch of K-dramas such as Athena but no Network/channel to link it to. Hmm.

Comcast offers KBS World? I thought that was only for Dish here in the states?

nope. it's on comcast too. you can check if you have it here: http://www.kbs-america.com/schedule/schedule_channel.aspx

Oh wow, that's cool.
But boo it not being available in my area.

that sucks. they should make it available for all comcast subscribers.

Well, they have a lot to convince me I should pay them $100/year instead of paying dramafever.com $40/year.... so far, I'm just not that impressed.

I'd support it only if the quality was really high and subs were super accurate. I'd also like to see Variety Shows. And Drama Fever is olny 40 bucks a year... hmmm I'll think about that then, but i seriously hate their player.

IDK why they don't just pay people from With S2 and the like so they can provide things like this in real time. With the way technology is now you don't need to have in house subbers for a company. Just hire FT staff and assign them to multiple shows. They do an excellent job and are fast when life (real jobs) don't get in the way if they could make a respectable amount translating all would be happy.

I was excited until every single thing I clicked on required a paid account. Why would I pay $11.99 a month if I could watch all these shows on like Hulu or DramaFever for free?

From: [identity profile] inudela.livejournal.com
the quality would have to be superb for this to be a success. either way it's not available to me :/

I hope they hire a new American/English typographer.
They're using too much Arial Black.

Um, no. $12/month? Prospectively $288 a year? Are you kidding me?

I'd pay less if I just bought the package from my service provider that allows me to get KBS World any way you cut it. :|

PRAISES. Now all they have to do is make this site available to everyone else.

i already have the channel so there's no point in paying for it. there's also many ways to see it for free before the dramas air on tv here.
