On March 15th, YG Entertainment announced that they’ll be donating $500,000 USD to the relief efforts in Japan.

The agency had set up a charity campaign four years ago, through which they help various charitable organizations by donating a portion of their total album sales. This year, YG Entertainment has decided to donate $500,000 USD in emergency relief funds.

A representative of YG Entertainment spoke with OSEN and revealed, “We are still discussing which organization to donate to. Funds for the campaign donations were taken from album sales, and a lot of Japanese fans have taken part in the campaign throughout the years. This donation will be made to give back that support the Japanese fans have shown us.”

They continued, “Campaign donations were always made at the year-end, but due to the sudden disaster in Japan, we’ve decided to go ahead and run the campaign earlier this year to aid in the relief efforts.  We’re all extremely upset with the natural disasters affecting the nation.”

Other stars who have publicly donated relief funds include Bae Yong Joon, Ryu Shi Won, Choi Ji Woo, Kim Hyun Joong, Jang Geun Suk, Lee Byung Hun, Song Seung Hun and KARA.

I was wondering and hoping the big entertainment companies would donate. So proud of YG, I hope SM & JYP will open up their pocketbooks as well and others donate what they can.

Who knows if SME or JYP donated? They might do it but not release a statement to the press announcing that they are.

I wonder why they wouldn't. People always love to hear the people (or in this case the people who back the people, as well) they love give back.

Just because people like to hear that big companies donating to a cause doesn't mean they are obligated to announce to the press every time they do it. They are plenty of big and small companies that give millions to charity and don't release statements about it. It's not a requirement to say that they did a good deed. They have a right to withhold that info.

YG press released it because of WITH foundation.

I know that, I am just saying that other companies might donate too but may or may not announce it publicly. I want to make it clear that I have no issue with YGE releasing a statement about their donation.

I honestly think it's highly unlikely that either company would donate without announcing it. It's too good of an opportunity to promote the good side of their companies, especially with their respective controversies. Sad, but true.

IA with you but what I was saying is that they aren't required to announce it if they are. They can announce it to the whole world if that means improving society's perception of them but whether or not they do it shouldn't have to stem from obligation to the media or outside influences.

Oh definitely, IA. I think the key phrase there is ...shouldn't have to stem... but reality is usually different.

doubt it considering how sajangnim doesn't really listen to her. YG has always donated and has their own charity. So, it makes sense that they'll do so for this tragedy. Instead of Bom, I can see Sean demanding for it.

to everyone~~~ if I were you, id buy YG artists' albums cause 10% or was is 1%?(either way..) of their album sales goes to WITH foundation/charities which is run by Sean..

Great job YG. I'm glad there's no wank here like in allkpop about the amount they donated. Since I'm a poor college student, my donation didn't amount this much.

And I'm so happy that YG created WITH foundation.

are people serious right now? -_-
instead of bitching about the amount they should stfu and donate themselves...

Date: 2011-03-15 06:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vanhangels.livejournal.com
yup. they were comparing it to the amount that Bae Yong Joon donated.

then again...even Justin Bieber got crapped for only donating $1 million.

YGE <3 im glad that so many people are helping out Japan, i hate how people are making it a contest to see who donates more,Japan has just had a major crises no one curr who donates more

Date: 2011-03-15 07:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] yaoipimp.livejournal.com
We don't care....but let them think that we do. Then they have to keep donating more and more to one up each other. It benefits Japan that way! :D

Date: 2011-03-15 09:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ss501pixie.livejournal.com
As long as Japan gets lots of help then people can just turn it into a stupid fanwar while the people who donate keep on being saints

Date: 2011-03-15 10:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] yaoipimp.livejournal.com
Basically.

If fanwars (or indeed - a concept of one upmanship among the big companies) happens, it can only benefit Japan.
