This week will be the last week fans will be able to see G-Dragon smash a guitar on stage for “Tonight,” as the group will no longer be putting on their special ‘guitar performance’ in favor of changing up their routine.

YG Entertainment revealed that this week’s episode of SBS’s “Inkigayo” will be the last of the guitar smashing, and reasoned, “We can’t show the same performance every time.  We’re currently planning something new to take the place of the guitar performance.  It’ll be a new choreography, we won’t be breaking anything else.”

The guitar performance was said to have begun as G-Dragons idea for the acoustic segment of the song.  After listening, he asked himself, “Should I just break it?”

When asked about the guitars that were broken, and whether they were new, YG officials responded,They are, of course, new.  Before every stage, we bought new guitars, and each are worth about $150 USD.

They were seriously buying brand new guitars just to destroy them for a 3 min performance?
If it was a one time thing, I wouldn't have cared but how times have they done it now?

Wow, that really ticks me off.

that's a lot of money to spend on something that's eventually going to be destroyed. the least they could've done is buy fake guitars.

Oh at least they stopped. But now that I think about it, artist always waste unnecessary money on making some nonexistent point. Some people release thousands of helium balloons, some trash drum sets/keyboards, some where perfectly good steaks.

/eggcited about new choreo

Good. Stupid to think it's a 'good idea' to destroy 1 guitar just for the hell of it, let alone a bunch of brand new guitars. Not like it's such a cool effect anyways.

I feel sad for the guitars. T_T Maybe they could've donated them to poor aspiring guitarists like myself.

1. the first few times, the guitar smashing was incredibly sexy. especially seeing it in person. unnnnnf angsty GD
2. $150 each performance is NOT a lot of money for a company like YG. please, they probably spend more than that on silver and blond hair dye touch-ups
3. they really, really should autograph and auction off all the broken guitars for charity

Date: 2011-03-13 12:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] charliesama.livejournal.com
I agree with all of it.

And netizens pleaaaaase, 150$ is a lot of money for US not for them. Come on guys, i'm sure every single ring they wear on those performances is more expensive than the guitar --"
I can't understand why everybody is so butthurt about it. It's not like GD was torturing and smashing puppies on the ground, JFC.

$150 would get you a really crappy guitar. I really don't get people's outrage over a performance. Pyrotechnics or glitter bombs or whatever probably cost just the same.

From: [identity profile] off-road-ninjas.livejournal.com
This. Seriously, I can't understand people's arguments about this. I get that it is a musical instrument, but it is hardly one with any real value. And somehow by smashing this guitar, Big Bang now have the responsibility of starving the world of the music this crappy guitar could make? No.

yea, i cringe. i hope gd/yg do some charity and donate guitars/instruments to those who can't afford them!

I am not amused with the guitar smashings also. Granted they own the money and do whatever they can with it, I find it disrespectful to the instrument to be treated like that.

It never bothered me tbh but I won't miss it.

I wonder why they didn't use props though. GD said in the 10asia BB interview that he doesn't actually play it at the performances so using real ones is indeed a waste.

The guitar performance was said to have begun as G-Dragon‘s idea for the acoustic segment of the song. After listening, he asked himself, “Should I just break it?”

It seemed to have been Shaun's idea on his twitter though. Probably came up during a conversation between them after deciding on using a real guitar for that part of the song.

not hot or either cold over this...

but if i can have one of those....*sigh*

it's one of those perf 'effect' so it's nothing so big to fuss over but then whoever plays instruments will get tickled for sure, they see the guitar in the different light...

so *shrug* at least they STOP NOW...

let it go, people!!

there is something utterly fucking ridiculous about someone smashing a guitar during a live performance... in such a very choreographed manner. maybe if GD had given in to his incalculable rebellious wrath during one night and started on the mic stands, the set, etc... anyone see what i mean? the cover of 'london calling' this ain't - and couldn't be.
