On the February 28th episode of SBS’s ”Night after Night,” After School’s Uee revealed her secrets to forming a slush (secret) fund.
She stated, “My parents manage all my funds, and I get an allowance of 300,000 won ($268.43 USD)every month.”

Comedian Park Myung Soo replied, “300,000 won is probably not enough,” to which Uee retorted,“That’s why I have a method of creating a slush fund.”

She continued, “When I go overseas, my parents give me a 500,000 won ($447.43 USD) allowance. I exchange the currency, but I don’t use it, so when I return to Korea, I exchange it back into Korean currency.”

Comedian Kim Jae Dong cracked up the audience when he pointed out, “Then, were you trying to benefit from the foreign exchange rate?”

Big Bang’s Seungri joined in on teasing Uee, as he stated, “Only Uee sleeps in her own place apart from After School’s dorm, causing the audience to crack up even further.

i haven't seen that article before! i feel a bad stan and she looks so cute, it makes me wonder if we'll ever see birdy buddy.

Yeah, I know. We dwelled a little on Filial Piety in Sociology class, and it's an eye-opener. It's funny how filial piety is the number one virtue for us with Eastern Asian origins - but the concept in itself is virtually unheard of in the West/other cultures.

One point is, it's virtually unheard of for us to move away from our parents (if circumstances allow) when we're still single and not married. Also, it's expected for us to provide for our parents when they are in old age - to "repay" all they have done for us when we were children. I've known of people from the States/UK who moved away from home at the age of 16 and had to settle college bills themselves/work for their allowances - perhaps that is why parents don't expect much from their children.

There are plenty of western stars that have their parents manage their careers. Certainly has its risk and drawbacks. Stars having access to their own money when they hit 18 has certainly ruined a lot of young star careers. Not saying they shouldn't have the right but its not a bad thing for idols to not think about the money.

LOL. It's the total opposite for me. Since I'm Indian, filial devotion is one of the things I can totally relate to.
My parents still manage my funds too (but my dad's also a CPA so I trust his financial knowledge anyways).

I'm the same age as UEE and my parents are still up in my business like I'm a teenager. I'm also still totally financially dependent on my parents since I chose to go to med school instead of getting a job after college. It's an Asian thing, I guess. Totally under your parents' control until you get married/have a stable job. Then after you're married, they'll still butt in on your business.

Seungri said the same thing and how he came home one time and it was this big ass house with a chandelier and marble floors.

Everyone was like wow such a good son, your parents manage your money and he was like yeah.

I was like wooow, no, wtf, just no. I would get SO pissed off if that didn't go through me first. WTF. A house isn't cheap.

It's only illegal when it's not your money. Or used for illegal purposes.

Yeah. Slush funds are bad when a politician does it with tax dollars or campaign contributions, for example.

Smart to have them save your money. A lot of American celebrities do this as well, Raven Symone being a prominent one. Girl let her parents handle everything and now she's apparently got enough to live comfortably the rest of her life.

I don't think a lot really do though... Lindsey, Miley, Hilary (idk about this one), the Olsen twins (?), list goes on...

But I think a better example would be Emma Watson. Girl basically used less than/around 1% of what she made from doing all the Harry Potter movies due to letting her smart parents take control of her finances. She has made bank really.

It doesn't always work out though. There have been cases where parents run off with their children's earnings or spend it without telling them only to leave that person broke or in debt. You think you can trust your parents but that's not always the case.
