In an industry flooded with idol groups, it’s become increasingly difficult to remember which member belongs where unless one is a fan of that specific group. INFINITE has done remarkably well for a rookie group so far, but their comeback still needs that extra push to catapult them into superstardom.
Considering the overall level of perfection found in their comeback track, “Before the Dawn“, one would assume that the song would do better on the charts. In an interview with TV Daily, the reporter joked to INFINITE that “the song would have won #1 on music programs if it was performed by another popular artist.”
INFINITE coolly replied, “We talk about that a lot too. It’s been six months since our debut, and our comeback album’s been released now for a little over a month. Winning #1 is something our CEO must worry over (laughter). All we have to do is focus on the stage. We’ve certainly grown a lot in our mentality, and even matured from boys into men. There’s still some disappointment left, but whenever we feel that, we try to go back to how we felt when we first debuted.”
The boys mentioned in a previous interview that they would be able to move into a larger dorm if they got into the ‘Top 10′ on a music program. Unfortunately, they’re still short of that goal. However, it didn’t hinder them from being able to enjoy the smaller victories. The boys revealed, “One time, we went up three ranks and started screaming in the waiting room out of pure joy once we found out.”
It’s unusual for rookie groups to carry personal cell phones, but the INFINITE members all own one. They explained, “Each of the members have a different style. It’s harder to control us without cell phones. We once got them taken away for three days, but they eventually gave them back.”
In order to give them that extra push in public recognition, the members were asked to describe a personal charm about themselves.
Leader Sungkyu is known as ‘Honey Sungkyu’, a nickname bestowed upon him by his fans to describe his honey-sweet voice. Woohyun is ‘bolmae‘, a Korean slang term that usually means ‘a person who is more charming by the day‘. In Woohyun’s case, however, the meaning was changed to ‘a person you want to hit more and more by the day‘. Woohyun explained, “You have to see me at least four times to really get a feel of who I am.”
Dongwoo is ‘Smile Man’ for his wide smile, which may be surprising for some since he’s known for his cold, expressionless features. All that changes when he grins, and he’s said to look quite innocent and sincere. Hoya, who’s known as the powerful rapper of the group, is ‘all man,’ meaning he looks like a man through and through.
Sungyeol nicknamed himself as ‘elementary boy’, as the members confirmed, “He talks and acts like a little kid.”
L is known as the quiet one, but but melts fans whenever he smiles with his eyes, which earned him the nickname ‘cold city man.’ Maknae Sungjong is unmistakably known as ’beautiful man.’ But being beautiful doesn’t mean that he’s shallow; the members joked that he was kind-hearted enough to make friends with even ghosts.
The boys of INFINITE concluded, “The charm of INFINITE is that each of the seven members have their own clear and unique tastes. But we’re also like a combined set of presents. If you fall for one member, we’re sure you’ll fall for the rest of us. It’d be so nice if fans fought over who they liked more (laughter). If we continue to think preciously of our fans and work hard to improve ourselves, maybe someday people will remember us.”

Date: 2011-02-21 09:24 am (UTC)And I love how much you can really tell about how Woohyun is from his performances and interviews. In performances = camera whore (but I don't blame him. If I was him I'd whore for the camera too). In interviews = self assured, witty and cynical, narcissistic (not that I blame him. If I was him I'd be self assured and narcissistic too). Obviously he'd make the best match for humble Sunggyu and his amazing motherly love for his members (and his awesome voice obviously).
Dongwoo seriously. I was just thinking about how Dongwoo really does look mean, Wild Eyed Dongwoo indeed, but when he smiles his whole face just completely lights up. And his laugh is just completely infectious and energetic and HAPPY, it makes me happy listening to his laugh because he always sound just so genuinely well...HAPPY! My biases usually have one thing in common = pretty boys. But Dongwoo is the ultimate exception. His smile and personality won me over like I have never been won over before. My ideal type to the nth degree.
The revelation that HOYA IS ALL MAN is the best thing to come out of this interview seriously. A MAN THROUGH AND THROUGH INDEED!
Sungyeol, what can I say that has not been said before? He seems Sunggyu's bratty second youngest son who eats the paint chips and glue and makes Sunggyu break out the Gaviscon every few hours.
L SMIZE is what I'm getting from this. I cannot the image of L getting the shit scared out of him by Jung Juri on Infinity Girls. He wasn't such a cold city man then lol.
Oh Sungjong. I was just watching him on Ohbama with Sistar and he is so amazingly feminine I can't even. I want Infinite on variety shows TWO DAYS AGO!
That final paragraph describes Infinite perfectly, but that last line is just too sad. I wish we could bottle all our love and dedication, decorate it with pink ribbons and lace and send it to them through express airmail.

They have done well and there's a lot of other idols and you can't be first so fast. Beast waited for Shock (and it felt quick only because they took very little time to do their singles), Secret waited for Shy Boy (which is their third promotionnal song).
This all obsession about being number 1 is beyond me. I know I'm not competitive by nature but it unsettles me that media only recognize this kind of thing. Plus, I'm not worried. It will happen for Infinite. They are too gorgeous and perfect for it not to happen. I wasn't worried either for Beast or Secret and I was right.
On another more pleasant note, I'm having a great crush on Hoya :).

Date: 2011-02-21 11:54 am (UTC)I'm not a competitive person either and the type of competition between artists encouraged by the media and variety shows like Star King etc, always pitting one artist/idol/guest against each other to basically humiliate them make me so disgusted sometimes. One particular example that I just cannot get out of my mind was the producers making Charice sing One Moment In Time after Luna just sang it fully knowing that Charice is a more powerful singer than her. I felt so bad for Luna then.
This music show number one cravings are nothing different. I do wish for Infinite to finally get the recognition they deserve, but not at the cost of their health or anything like that, because at the end of the day it isn't all about talent but popularity. I have nothing against DBSK, I do like them to an extent though I've never been a huge fan and after the whole debacle with JYJ anf stuff, I'm happy for Changmin and Yunho. But in my opinion, Keep Your Head Down isn't a very good song. They just won the awards because face it, they are Yunho and Changmin.
