KARA’s legal dispute with DSP Media has now developed into a battle between professional law firms.

DSP Media was hit with a lawsuit three days ago from KARA’s Seungyeon, Nicole, and Jiyoung, and unable to avoid a legal battle, went ahead by bringing in Sejong Law Firm’s Im Sang Hyuk. Sejong is one of the representative law firms in the nation, as it houses over 300 lawyers by itself.

KARA’s trio, who had been working with Landmark ever since the start of this dispute, was recently revealed to have been in a secret meeting with Hankyul Law Firm on February 16th. Representatives of the trio asked Hankyul to take on their case, and Hankyul accepted.

Hankyul is known for their work in the entertainment industry, as they made headlines in 2005 for taking on the ‘celebrity x-files’ case. Hankyul is also responsible for 60% of the film distribution companies in the nation.

The legal representative KARA’s trio chose from Hankyul, Kim Jin Wook, has previous experience working with Super Junior’s Han Geng in his lawsuit against SM Entertainment. KARA’s trio were revealed to have been adamant with their decision on Kim, especially since he won the lawsuit.

Considering the fact that DSP Media is backed by Im Sang Hyuk, who’s currently the legal representative for JYJ against SM Entertainment, industry representatives have interpreted the trio’s move in switching out their lawyers to mean that they are now ready to put up an aggressive fight.

Well, at least we won't have the parents talking at every chance they get

Ironically, it was Sejong who Geng wanted in the beginning to represent him but they sent him elsewhere since they were busy with JYJ Vs. SM.

Will be watching to see how this plays out.

DSP seems to be pretty open in terms of the earnings and paperwork and their contracts were already seen as fair by the FTC. IDK how much of a case Landmark has.

from KARA’s Seungyeon, Nicole, and Jiyoung

So has anyone actually heard from the girls or is this still all the parent's doing?

But Hangeng case was different right? He didn't sue for the money, he wanted to leave SME permanently.

Anyway, it will be interesting if Sang Hyuk-sshi will use SM lawyer tactics in JYJ case on DSP case.

SNJ side has never talked about suing for money. All they have said was to terminate their contract.

Thank you for the clarification, I'm actually confused about the whole thing. I guess too much money talk in this case.

honestly if i wasn't a stan i would be so confused... who has that kind of energy as someone not invested in kara to go to a billion articles on this.

Geng's case was kinda different imo. His contract was horrible and he directly seek for termination without asking for anything like clear financial report etc. Though Kara 3 asked for termination as well but they asked for other things or at least their reasoning was confusing.

I don't follow Geng's case closely but I remember that he cited 'health' as the main reason for his lawsuit.

Glad that I'm not the only one who's confused about KARA's case.

yup, geng's case was low key. he filed a lawsuit for termination then a few reasons were out in the public. They r health reason and how he couldn't visit his mom often in China. That is all. Quite a clean case and I lvoe Geng for that. :)

Kara's case is a tangled mess.

I can take Geng's case better than others, he laid low and never bitched or asked for anything other than termination. He was very respectful through the entire process.

yup he was very classy. To think that he had to share his income with 12 other members, I expected him to bitch about the green.
It's beyond me how some stans even compared and questioned why SME let him go easily. There was zero shadiness in that lawsuit imo.

Geng's case is a definite win imo while Kara's....i dunno~~

Ok someone explains something to me because I'm completely lost here: how is it possible for the parents to have this "legal battle" in the name of their daughter when, the girls, except JiYoung, are all in age. You can't fil a lawsuit in another name, even your daughter, when this one is on age. I'm completely baffled by this point.

MTE.....I don't get this either, if they are legal adults, why in the world would parents have legal power to mess with their daughter's contracts....

I don't know Korean law but you can give someone power of of attorney. Most likely that since their contracts since they were sign by their parents (when they were underage) their power still extends given the contract is still in effect.
