The piano version of the song is my favorite. And I don't totally understand the plot. Obviously the girl's a little crazy but past that I don't really get it...
i love iu, i love her voice, i really do, but i can't never be fully involved by her music, i always feel like she lacks feelings behind the lyrics/melody/techinic.
with that said she looks gorgeous and sounds awesome.
I think her voice has a natural quality that makes understated songs interesting (e.g. Fifth Finger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kZU1Ih8IHk), Alone in the Room (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo7sl9rb36M), etc) but I'm really not feeling this title track... there's no depth to the melody, and the music video is too minimal.
the art direction, iu's acting, the colors, the sets/scenery, the shots, etc, etc. I love how everything's more mature and less geared for the general public.
this mv is so beautiful and iu's voice is amazing ♥ it'd be nice if i could understand what the actress was saying//know what the storyline was. what was that paper with the X's on them?
at first i didn't like the song because of its plainness, but it's quite gorgeous ♥ thank god she made a comeback with this kind of music. 'Good Day' is nice but the performances/music video had so much fake cutesy.. that was NOT real IU at all.
seriously Good Day is not her type of music at all. the happy/cutesy thing is so forced. she's always had more of a sweet, melancholy feel about her and she seems most in her element when doing those types of songs.
lots of people are asking about what was said in korean. i couldnt hear it all 100% correctly, but some of the stuff said in the beginning was along the lines of: off-screen person: do you feel uncomfortable anywhere today? girl: my body feels strange. like it's someone else's body.
And then at the end, the girl says that everyone tells her that the man is her father but he's not.
I'm not really sure how it all ties together, but it sort of reminds me of A Tale of Two Sisters in a way. Obviously there's something mentally not right with the girl, so that she can't recognize who she is or who the man is (which would be why the put another x, since it was yet another day that she couldn't see it).
Hope that helps a little bit, though I'm sure someone else could do better translating, since my Korean is not always that great, so I missed some parts.
All that being said, I like this song a lot more after hearing it along with the video. Something about the video captured me; maybe it was the color palate or the fact that i didnt really know what was going on, so it made me pay attention more. I'm curious to see how well IU will deliver this live. I love her voice so much, though I agree that sometimes with live performances, she should put in more emotion. I feel like a song like this will be better than her past stuff, in terms of performance, though, because I think it's the type of song that she enjoys more. /long-ass comment
"The storyline is a nod to the French film "Leon" by Luc Besson. That movie was hugely popular in Korea and some sort of cult following by young movie makers in Korea when it came out many years ago, and I think this MV's director was one of them. In the film, a troubled adolescent Matilda (played by young Natalie Portman) falls in love with a middle aged contract killer named Leon (played by Jean Reno).
There is a scene where Matilda and Leon are running away from a corrupted, devilish, sadistic cop (played by Gary Oldman) and check into a hotel. There, she told the hotel clerk that they are father and daughter, but later she confesses to the young clerk that they are in fact lovers. Then, at the last scene that follows the climax in which Leon blows himself up along with the cop, Matilda is checked in some institution for troubled kids, and there she gives the whole story to an interviewer."
Oh and all the people still saying her vocals lack emotion are either just repeating a stance they've held from the start or talking points they've seen elsewhere. It holds no truth here. This is a rich performance, dynamic singing. I'm pretty damn sure all this bullshit started because she doesn't have the most expressive face in the world, and people who don't know jack about jack started thinking it was about the music.
