Even European fans manage to make micro-achievements. Sometimes.
Shocking, isn't it?
One of Italy's national channels, Rai 3, hosts a news program aimed at teenagers and the like: GT Ragazzi (a pun on "TG" which means "flash news" and "Ragazzi" which stands for "teenagers" in this occasion).
This program offers the audience the chance to propose topics to be shown on TV through their facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/gtragazzi).
Some weeks ago, Italian ELFs and SONEs had began flooding the FB page with suggestions of doing a press report on Super Junior and/or SNSD.
In the end, GT Ragazzi asked the fans to create a video about Kpop as a general trend (but somewhere along the way it translated to "SME and YGE" apparently) and promised to air it.
On the 10th of February, at 3 PM, the program aired.
Summary of what's being said:
They refer to 2NE1 as "flexible little girls" (*le gasp*) and proceed to say how Kpop is gaining thousands of fans in Italy.
Yari from Salerno tells her experience as a fan and explains the basics of Kpop (music genre, boy- and girl-bands...) and the lenghts Italian fans went in order to meet Super Junior in Venice to get photos and help them with train tickets.
( )
Yari obviously hadn't a script with her and made some mistakes:.
She says that Kpop is "Pop with characteristics from the places they come from". She probably took S.Korea for the Asian continent in its entirety.
Then states she really likes SHINee and that there are "many other groups". Biased much? Probably just nervous, BUT STILL.
Lastly she reveals she has a whole hard-disk full of CDs. O_O! You shouldn't reveal that on TV! Last I checked it was still illegal.
I was going to be kinder towards her and just be grateful for this event, but some people on my TList were RAGING.
Overall not really noteworthy and sometimes pointless, but YAY! Kpop in Italy is good.
The entire episode can be watched here (but everything else is regular Italian flash news talk, so it's useless).
Luckily for Italian fans, this time GT Ragazzi managed to get (most of) the facts right.
Here a clip from last year about DBSK.
In plain words: obscenity.
They had dared to say that "Tee Voo Eex Koo" were inspired by Justin Timberlake and wanted to be like Backstreet Boys
The commenteer just spews huge amounts of

Should I edit?

At least Italy (or some of it at least) knows kpop exists...we're still faaaaaar behind the times on that here o.0 But hopefully it's a sign that it's becoming more accessible over this way. I'm hearing more and more about it in Europe ^^

Date: 2011-02-13 12:18 am (UTC)Hi, I'm the disgraceful girl who, under the name of Yari, appeared in this article.
I think that I will have to explain and defend myself here just as I did in other websites. I’ve been doing only this around since that service aired on Italian television.
First of all: there is a list of all the things that I said and they are, one by one, criticized everywhere. This is not correct: I spoke for 20 minutes, they cut and showed only a very little part of the interview, and I didn't say anything awful at all, if you consider what I just explained.
I spoke widely about the whole kpop movement, but television has its rhythms and so this is what you got to see. But if anyone of you will come and talk with me about kpop, you will discover how much and how well i know it.
But I ensure you that everybody else in my shoes would have suffered the same misunderstandings. You can't prove yourself clever and prepared in such a short lass of time on the TV.
As for the service: yeah, it wasn't the greatest explanation that GT Ragazzi could give of KPop movement. But, could we pretend more of this from a 2-minutes service?
Regarding the critics that I received:
1) KPop is characterized by pop and Korean music. So it is characterized from the place where it comes from. It's Logical. We all know that they are American wannabe's, lol XD - ( If you bear a little musical culture, you perfectly know that they inspire themselves to the great names of American music. After all, you can't tell me that "pop" and sexy choreographies were born in s.korea. )
2) I pronounced many, many groups in the entire interview. And also singer solo. They cut only the SHINee. It's NOT my fault. As I said to maki_yoyoyaoi, I'm much more an old school fan. The fact that I listen to SuJu or SHINee doesn't mean that I'm a newbie. I simply like their music.
3) To have a whole hard-disk full of CDs is not a crime. If you didn't pay for them: that is the crime. But I bought them regularly.
Since when this service aired on yesterday evening I've been "creating problems with myself". I didn't know that I would have been the narrator of the service. Until 10 minutes before the interview, they didn't even tell me that it would have been on webcam. And I even discover that I'm the one and only to talk about this topic on the national television. This thing puts me on great disease, as much as the idea of who could watch this service is diseasing me.
Who acts like an expert pretending that I'm gaining popularity from all this, is invited to rec. service like this, in my shoes, spreading himself on the internet and getting ready for likes and dislikes. Since this kind of people thinks that they could do better than me.
Thank you.
