On January 25 and 26, 2011, "SM TOWN" had their world tour at Tokyo's National Yoyogi Stadium.

This time, DBSK showed that they were going strong. Groups like SHINee and SNSD have gotten attention as the "New Faces" on the Japanese stage.

Even though SHINee hasn't debuted officilly in Japan yet, you could see that they already have a lot of fans. SNSD has a lot of female fans who want to be like them.

A person close to SM Entertainment stated that in ticket sales alone for these 2 performances, SM has potentially earned around 300 million yen (~3.6 million USD). The price of the tickets were 12,800 yen (~154 USD) and all 12,000 seats were sold out during each performance. The shirts, clothing, albums and character goods are also expected to have sold well.

They claim these performances were a "preliminary performance" to April's Tokyo Dome performances. Simply, just in ticket sales for the Tokyo Dome performance, 100,000 people should attend and that would make SM earn more than 1 billion yen (~12 million USD).

Dear SME, I'm a poor fangirl. Will you please sponsor me to all your concerts in the name of love?

Don't SMTown get 65% of net profits from concerts? Although there is like 30 of them to share between, they should still get a nice pay check out of it :)

Date: 2011-01-27 05:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dellusions.livejournal.com
I don't know if its true. However even if it is net profit is what is left after the expenses are covered and those include, on top of concert organisation and employees, exec salaries

so i doubt there is much left

And then we have the expenses SM had to pay for arranging and having the concert

Date: 2011-01-28 08:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] enoa03.livejournal.com

More often than not, there are production companies who sponsors these concerts so majority of the expenses does not fall under SME. Unless they are the ones who arranged these shows without going through local production companies. Like what happens for SS3, the local production companies who promotes and sponsors SS3 in their respective countries actually has to pay for majority of the concert expenses and take responsibility for selling the tickets. On top of that, they need to pay SME huge royalties.

"The shirts, clothing, albums and character goods are also expected to have sold well."

Dear SM, why didn't you get your act together and go through whatever you needed to to bring merchandise to the US when you came? especially when you knew the arena also sold out. you would be able to really see the hunger for kpop fans here.

my thoughts exactly. plus merch is most likely one area that idols directly profit from... maybe. i really want a suju t-shirt, i haven't been in this fandom 4 years for nothing.

I wish someone leaked SM artists' current contract, I want to know how much artists make out of these kind of non-solo concerts.

Some time back, I translated part of their distribution ratio in the post on all SM artistes signing new contracts. It didn't mention anything on concerts but the other ratios were pretty fair, I think?

which is sad because usually, especially here in US. The artist actually make decent money off their concert revenue than album sales.

Still bitter that Japan gets merch and America didn't.

But I would take seeing BoA in concert over merch. I really would.

I just wanted both.

Good to know that they earned a lot from the concert and unlike most omonians here, I believe SMers get a decent amount of paycheck.
