12 Days Into Debut Single 'FIRE' Makes 200 Million Won

Girl group 2NE1 has renacted their sibling group Big Bang's "hundred million apotheosis (?) '

2NE1 had released their single (Fire) on the 6th and just after 12 days have made sales records of over a hundred million won. Their senior group, Big Bang, who are in the same label as them have recently made over 1 billion won in sales with 3 CM songs and so is being compared to that. 2NE1 consists of Park Bom, Sandara Park, Gong Minji, and CL who are planning to release a mini album and start their activities in the beginning of next month.

2NE1, “cheers ‘Let’s play!’ before going onto stage”

The debut single of YG’s new girl group ‘FIRE’ is gathering popularity.

2NE1, the girl group with the label of “Female Big Bang” which is produced by the representative of YG Entertainment Yang Hyun Suk, seems like is having great pressure recently.

The pressure of 2NE1 is coming from the attention that gathered in the music industry such as what is the difference between SNSD or WG, what is the common denominator with Big Bang, and what is the new and unexpected thing that Yang representative trying to come out with. The collaboration with Big Bang in the song and CF of a mobile advertisement ‘Lollipop’ has became No.1 in the music source search and download, the recent released debut single “Fire” is also topping various music search download sites, all these can be seen as the responses of public concern.

The joining process of the members that are chosen by the fastidious Yang representative was also different respectively.

Leader CL (Lee Chae Rin, 18) who followed her father, a professor in the Physics Department of Sogang University, had lived in France and Japan before, and in 2006 without considering the consequences she directly went up to YG firm which is located at Hap Jung Dong, Seoul, and handed her own demo cd in front of the door to Yang representative who was about to go out and thus got that opportunity.

As for Gong Min Ji (15) the grandniece of a Korea dancer Ms. Gong Ok Jin, someone had uploaded the clip where she took part in a dancing competition during her fifth grade onto YG official site, and then accepted the proposal to join in 2004. She didn’t proceed to senior high after graduating from junior high, and now she is preparing for examination.

Park Bom (25) who had secretly transferred to Berkeley Music University without informing parents, as she just wanted to make her music dream come true, however she is finally qualified to join in by attending the YG audition for few times after coming back to Korea.

2NE1 who recently got interviewed gave the answer “Freedom” to the question about what their weapon is.

CL mentioned: “There are many those who can sing well and also dance well. While as for us, we promise to ourselves that we must not forget this is just the thing that we like. Before going onto the stage, we cheered “Let’s play”. Therefore, we can freely enjoying whatever stage we are on, and this can make the audiences happy as well.”

Due to the label of “Female Big Bang’, they have introduced their similarities and differences between Big Bang, and also the differences between other popular girl groups such as SNSD or WG.

The members stated: “If you consider us from from the same root as “YG Family” or from the recent HipHop music that we are making, we are having the common denominator as Big Bang”, and explained: “Although Big Bang is having the member like G-Dragon who can do lyrics writing and composing, but we can have 1TYM’s Teddy as the producer and coordinate with him. We can also gain many different feelings from different producers.”

Other than that, they have also emphasized the strong hiphop feel which is different from SNSD, WG, as well as their neutral impression which is the biggest difference.

“We were very surprised during the first broadcasting due to female fans. Almost 90% of the 1000 fans were females, and the voices that sang along were mostly high pitched. Our feminine, cute music will not too diverge from Hiphop. The dance that was choreographed by the famous US choreographer Shaun Evaristo is based on the manly movements, however, with some added credits from girl hiphop.”

We (the newspaper) requested them to introduce the training lesson in YG to those who want to join YG and dream to become singer.

After finishing classes with friends, then come to the firm that is located at Hap Jung Dong to work out. 2 hours for singing training, 2 hours for dancing improvement training, 2 hours for exercising, 1 hour for language learning such as Japanese and Chinese, just like following the school timetable.

CL mentioned: “After finishing the lessons at 11PM, between the period till 3AM, is the self practice time. Yang representative will test and comment on the training progress once per 2 weeks. Even though Dara unnie looks like very feminine, but she had prepared a song with strong hiphop beat, and that had surprised Yang representative.” Park Bom and Gong Min Ji added: “We have also received the instruction from foreign dancer as well as rap learning.”

The joined YG because they are having the dream of becoming a public singer?

“Even though becoming a popular singer is good, but nothing is better than music. You can never forget the taste after you have been on the stage for once. I was still shivering before the first broadcasting, but there is nothing to be afraid of once we stood in front of the fans.” (members)

It seems like we are seeing a runaway train as it's literally scary how only 6 days after the debut, the top rookie in the women’s groups, 2ne1, is grabbing all the charts.

No one knew the curiosity for the girls their debut song <Fire> would arouse. CL, Park Bom, Park Sandra, and Gong Minji are causing higher interest than ever. Topics in the center line will introduce them one by one.

The 18 year old, the 2ne1 rapper CL does not act her age, but gives the feeling of maturity. Although there are unnies, she is put in the role of the leader. The YG yang hyunsuk told the audience: “you have to watch them closely.”, but it was not a special order.

It was three years ago that she has knocked on the doors of YG. She made a demo and in front of the YG entertainment and waited for few days. She put the CD inside Yang hyunsuk’s hand and told him “you have to listen to this”, so she got to be known as the fearless singer.

“With the confidence that came out of somewhere I told him ‘you have to listen to this many times'. I also threatened him that if 'you do not listen to this, you will regret it’. In retrospect I laugh thinking about where that courage came from.”

Inside the CD was CL singing and dancing to Beyonce’s <Dangerously In Love> along with the girl's earnest letter. After one week, YG contacted CL and she got the message that he wanted to see her perform one more time, and that’s how it started.

She was born into a tight disposition. Following her father, from the 2 years old to second grade, she spent her life in Japan, and after living in France, she was naturally developed into variety of cultures. Including Japanese, she is fluent in English and French. She is very interested in fashion and art. And she is currently studying songwriting (lyrics and composing).

“When I don’t have a practice, I go to dongdaemoon and study the current fashion trends. I like unique things (clothes). I also wear clothes that I remake. (Sandra park who is next to me said while hitting me, ‘let’s tell everyone it can even be used on the cover of the next album‘) It is still embarrassing even to sing.”

Her dream is to stand on the 2ne1 performing stage.

“I have the most greed of showing everyone what our true colors are. I want our own concert soon. We can even show our own talents in the concert. I hope that day will come soon.”
