Composers compliments Leeteuk about his ‘rediscovery’.. Leeteuk confesses that he “wanted to become a singer who can sing well, but that dream got pushed aside”

Suju’s Leeteuk shows his hidden singing skills.

On MBC’s ‘Sunday Sunday night- Enjoy Today’(오즐) which was aired on the 23rd of January, a ballad release competition was held. Leeteuk who was in the competition showed off his hidden singing talent and received the highest score of 35.

Before Leeteuk started to sing his song, Wheesung who was one of the judges told about how he saw Leeteuk singing Im Chang Jeong’s song and practicing hard in the bathroom.

Unlike the usual sides he has shown on variety shows, he showed a very serious and sincere side of him while singing. He was also stable when hitting the high notes, and after Leeteuk’s song finished, starting from composer Kim Hyung Suk he received many compliments such as “ It was something more than we expected”.

Jo Young Su, Wheesung and other judges complimented him with many positive points such as saying, “he broke away the prejudice about him being an idol singer and sang very well”. As a result, the judges gave him a high score of 35, making him the first place amongst the ‘오즐’ members.

On the other hand, after Leeteuk left the room. Judges could not stop complimenting about Leeteuk saying “ I was shocked because of how good he was”. Wheesung replied “I told you he is good” as a reply. Wheesung also told the other judges about how he and Leeteuk has a relation. He told them “During Leeteuk’s trainee days, he had many thoughts and frights/worries about him debuting, he also worked really hard”.

After the audiences watched Leeteuk singing their reactions were like “He is sooooo good in singing !!”, “Variety and singing is Leeteuk!”, “If you haven’t seen Leeteuk sing, don’t even say anything. Ah this is just awesome” etc.. Like this, they expressed their endless compliments.

Aww. He was so nervous. Not shocked bb can sing well. Doing trot well is hard, and he does it pretty well. I actually really like his voice. But in a group with some really exceptional singers, I can see where he would get overshadowed.

tbh I always knew Teukie could sing, he just doesn't get much opportunity to showcase his talent cos he's always goofing around so not making as much effort, or giving up lines in songs to other members of SuJu. Nice to see his ability getting noticed more ^^

YESSS. He spends so much time making a fool of himself to make people laugh and downplaying his singing and piano playing abilities to the advantage of the other members that people often forget/assume that he can't sing.

I know there's people who thinks he's a blabbermouth or cocky but I think anyone who watches him closely enough would realize that even when he's gloating about himself, a good 90% of the time there's a note of derision in his self-compliments. And when the cameras or the attention is not focused on him, his smile drops almost immediately, he goes really quiet and you can see the tiredness starting to show on his face.

One of the things I love about their soundtracks and lives is that we get to see solo (or maybe duet/trio) work from all the SuJu members, so we can here what their voices sound like for a sustained effort. It's easy to start thinking they can't sing when they pass the mic around 13 members, with even KRY usually not get parts that exceed 10-15 seconds at a time. You might here Leeteuk singing for 4 seconds here, 5 seconds there - But he really can sing, and he's got a nice voice!

He can sing well, but he focuses mostly on being a good leader and helping to have Super Junior stay popular in public in any time of variety. So it's very enjoyable to have him sing some more in a tv show.

the thing that struck me most reading this whole article and watching the video was how hard he practiced for it.

im telling you in case there are non ELFs reading the comments here, this guy is not your average busy idol. he probably has 3 times as many schedules, in addition to being in the midst of a whole lot of concert rehearsals, performances and other things. but i can just imagine when he knew he had to sing for this audition he must have tried to squeeze in practice whenever he could, just like the footage showed he was practicing everywhere.

thats just how our leader lives, and has been living all this time. working harder than anyone else, selling his gag, humour and heart out to viewers and fans alike and.. i just want to say he really deserves this, the good comments he got from wheesung and all. obviously he's not fabulously fabulous with a memorable voice like yesung's or junsu's but i can sort of see where the comparison with taeyeon is coming from. they both work hard and they're both serious about singing despite being under the label of (dance) idols. (: *ships taeteuk so friggin bad ydek*

never doubted his singing ability ever. although he sometimes goes way off tune and his voice cracks (i often suspect if he does that just for gags sometimes) while covering random people's songs on sukira, he's always sounded fine to me.

and lol this... he hit the high notes pretty well! :D

but ahem, yeah. obviously most of suju isn't going to be able to have an awesome career as solo artists, but people who think they really can't sing haven't seen enough of these guys. i remember when i showed my sister the michael jackson tribute so she could squeal over jonghyun, she was like '... wow ... leeteuk actually sings pretty well' and i was so happy i gave her another ten million links.

i have so much respect for leeteuk. all of suju, defs, but leading ten, thirteen, fifteen members (especially this certain lot, heh) is crazy. and he overworks him so much all so their group can have a better reputation, a larger reputation. he deserves every single vote people give him for being kpop's best leader. :3

Not surprised at all. I've always considered Teuk as one of the consistent and reliable singers in Suju if not the best. That's why he's more often than not the go to person to fill in if one of KRY or other members are not present.
