Boy group Teen Top had their name mislead by English tweeters for “gay porn” causing the group embarrassment and management worried over what effect that this will have on their image. From releasing their current single “Supa Love” which has became a trend on Twitter, other tweeters caught notice and questioned Teen Top’s name.
On January 14th to 15th, Teen Top appeared on Twitter’s “Top 20 Trends from Around the World” and their popularity proved to be growing.
However, in an English tweeter posted, “Teen Top is a boy band from South Korea. Their debut's song is CLAP. Sounds like some kind if illegal gay porno.”
Teen Top got their name from the short form of Teenz on Top but to netizens overseas, many saw it as “Teen” for “teenagers” and “Top” as in a bikini top.
Aside from that, their agency stepped in and stated, “How can you tell if that English explanation is accurate?” as well as, “We are hoping that this does not ruin the image of Teen Top.”
