As disputes on the contracts of idol groups such as DBSK or Kara continue, Shinhwa Lee Minwoo's keys to becoming a long-running team which had been revealed in the past, are lately coming into the spotlight.
Last year in the number 11 interview of the August issue of 'High Cut,' Lee Minwoo mentioned longest running group Shinhwa's secrets, and also some rules he wishes to tell his juniors to keep in order to become a long running group.
At the time Lee Minwoo stated that "I believe the strength that keeps us together as Shinhwa are our memories" and confessed Shinhwa's secrets to being a long running group.
Lee Minwoo stated that back when they were twenty years old, they fought severely, even having fist fights with each other, but still they never forgot the fact that they are one team. He also added that "when one member falls behind or is in a bad situation, the other five members raise him to his feet and walk together with him" as a silent pact among the members.
Out of the interview, the 'rules he wishes to tell his junior idol groups' caught the most attention.
Lee Minwoo stated first that "if you want your team to succeed, lay down your personal interests." Greed for money or more activities bring you to the shortcut of disbandment. The second rule is that because it becomes difficult when the members compete for only so many opportunities, you must "not try to stand out too much alone." He also gave advice that "because even small slips of the tongue can become giant fights, the closer you are to each other, you must be more considerate and careful."
Out of these rules, the third rule - "when you come to a problem, solve it between your members. Do not let your parents or acquaintances become involved. Have a glass of soju together and solve your problems with frank conversations between yourselves" - is being lauded among the netizens as something they wish to tell Kara.
Lee Minwoo added that "when there is something important coming up, like signing a new contract, we first talk about it between members. Like adults, we decide the future of Shinhwa ourselves. When we have conflicts or worries, we drink together and let it go like men."
Kara's members Han Seungyeon, Nicole, Kang Jiyoung, and Koo Hara became a hot topic because on the 19th, they demanded a cancellation of their contracts to their management DSP Entertainment. Soon the dispute became more severe as it was revealed that the members' parents were involved and that some members were not aware of how much the incident had progressed.
The netizens identified with Lee Minwoo's words, saying that "this is what I want to tell Kara," "we can identify with his words because it feels like DBSK and Kara aren't fighting amongst their members, but with their management companies," "wise words from a veteran idol," and "I hope the problems are solved soon."

But if the whole group stands up together the company is in a bind. The fans would side with the group as a whole and they'd have more power. Splitting 2/3 or 1/4 give them a shaky foundation and I'm sure the company knows just what to do to expose those cracks.

I feel like that's important as well. There are many groups who always say they never fight, which maybe some of them never do, but then I feel like sometimes having little fights here and there and getting your thoughts out instead of holding it in is good.
also I remember minwoo said this once "he member who’s left behind, we grab hold of his hand. The member who’s at the front, shares his luck with the rest of us. That’s how we’ve gone through for 10 years"
