Park Yoochun opens the door to the year 2011 filled with vitality. When I meet him on the 13th, he looked very vibrant. He debuted through the drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and received three awards for Best Newcomer award, Best Couple award, and Netizen award. Park Yoochun with JYJ will soon publish essay album, it’s a major hit in many bookstores, he is very busy everyday.
Congratulations on winning three awards. The competition for the Best Newcomer award was very fierce, but you alone won the award has attracted many topics of discussion.
I was also really surprised at that moment. I thought after my name there would be someone else as well, who would get on stage with me to receive the award. I didn’t have 100% confidence of winning this award and felt the burden. Winning this award is different than from winning awards as a singer, with so many seniors setting in front, I felt very embarrassed and felt lost.
You chose a historical drama as to debut, what surprised me is, everyone’s attitude toward your “acting ability debate” was not tough, you passed very easily.
I didn’t specifically pick a historical drama, but I thought this is a very good drama, so I decided to act in it. In the beginning, I didn’t have much expectations for myself, just hoped everyone’s evaluation for me in the outside world isn’t too bad. There are very few singer born actors acting in historical dramas at first the producer was uneasy, and suggested for me to take any role other than Lee Sunjoon. However, the next day, I send the producer a very long text, the content including how I really want to act as this role.
What part of Lee Sunjoon attracted you?
What made me really care about this character, is because deep inside his heart contains pain. When filming, I felt this character is very much like me in real life. For example, sitting in the room with a peaceful mind to think, not exposing the pain instead his heart and so on. Only I feel that Sunjoon can firmly state what’s in his heart, but as for me, I would endure to the end until the end, and then erupt once.
You are in a dispute with SM entertainment regarding the company’s exclusive contract, I think you must be very pained at heart? At the end of last year, JYJ was able to appear on TV for the first time, on that stage wasn’t the 5 member TVXQ but the 3 member JYJ, how did you all feel at that moment?
If I was suddenly have to face this situation and stand on the stage, I would have been hit very hard. But I have already thought about it for a very long time, and have understands it at heart, so I wasn’t hit as hard. Singing with 3 people, can’t be measured with emotions such as “sad, happy’. However, I did feel a big regret.
Recently, TVXQ 2 members, hope JYJ can resolve with SM, and return to the side of the 2 of them. What are the possibilities of reuniting?
When I was little, HOT disbanded. Afterwards, when they received interviews they were asked about reuniting, they all say they themselves want to be together again, but because of the company, it is really difficult in reality. I feel 100 the same as what they said. I want to reunite more than anyone, very pained at heart, I feel like to resolve this problem, a lot of time is needed. I feel that the most important is, if the 2 sides need start building a bridge that can allow use to be together again.
On the internet, there is a fierce battle between TVXQ and JYJ
That’s why I don’t go online, spend some time in the villa in Kyonggi. The online news, I would hear some from Junsu and Jaejoong. Not long again, when skiing, I heard “WHY” (TVXQ new song). The more I hear about that kind of thing, I would think of it as fighting, must work harder to accept it. Can’t contact them by phone, I hope us members can gather together and drink.
Now the atmosphere is solemn. Let’s change the topic. Did you have acting ambitions since a long time ago?
I wanted to act from a long time ago, but couldn’t find the time. Especially during the blank periods, my interests in acting becomes very active. I officially accepted guidance from Kim KapSu, a senior in Sungkyunkwan Scandal. In the beginning he would ask me with serious face “Have you read the script?” and the taught me how to breath, look, move, and so on. But in episodes 1-4, I still feel embarrassed and couldn’t watch it properly (laugh).
If there’s a Sungkyunkwan Scandal 2, would you want to act in it?
Of course. I hope all four of us will be able to act in it. If I have to change a character, I would want to act as Seol Go Bong. He acted out his character very nicely, I envy him, there was a time I would secretly imitate him in the bathroom.
Another popular topic was a female poet that wrote a poem “thank you, park Yoochun”.
I feel like its a state of mind that belongs to how to treat a son! I’m really grateful to her. Although right now I have a lot of incompetencies, but I can move their hearts a little, I feel very satisfied. In fact, I never thought I look handsome. Standing in front of the mirror after taking a shower, looking at myself I feel “Ah, not that great.” Once, I even thought hard about getting plastic surgery. However, I must thank my dad, for giving me very long eyelashes (laugh).
Compared to before (TVXQ time), now you look more bright, more lively.
Recently a lot of interesting things happened. Back then I didn’t have a say regarding schedule and money. I feel like it was more volunteer work. Now, I have ambitions with work, and feel like I’m working for myself. Moreover, my parents don’t have to work, and my mom doesn’t need to worry about living expenses.
Future plans
For the first half of the year my plans are promoting in US as JYJ and worldwide concert. In the 2nd half of the year, if there are any good dramas, I would like to meet the TV audiences. I want to take on a character that is memorable to people. For example, a nice looking killer, or a mentally ill person. When filming Sungkyunkwan Sandal, I was nervous because of the pressure, but now I feel that I can play a role in a emotional comedy.
Park Yoochun who seems to be forever young, he is a good older brother continuously giving his younger brother good advice. He has once said to his brother Yoohwan who will debut as a actor next month, “Don’t just look at ‘the screaming at the live performance’ and ‘artist’s appearance’, then decide.” He hopes with his future activities, he doesn’t have to fake anything. Unconsciously, he already became a mature men from a young man.

It's been a long time since I watch a drama this lovely. People moves because of their love, not because of their hatred.

wasn'ta fan a Yoochun so I definitely wasn't biased or something. Scripwriter did amazing, because he came up with a figure very difficult to understand, but Chun also did great in bringing him to life :D Maybe the fact that he was new to acting actually helped him? He was a little awkward at the begginig (I think xD), but I find it even better. Thanks to it LSJ came across as more natural, I don't know 8D I hope I make some sense >DLong reply is long, I hope you don't mind xD

His character for me is amusing. He is not a noble born typical character. He is rebelling but not in "rough" way. He also never afraid to consider opinions from others.
I was a DBSK fan so actually I was excited yet afraid with skks because two previous dramas with two members from DBSK didn't satisfy me much (in term of acting for these two members). I was afraid until I avoided this drama till the end of last year. As fan, i even more critical with what they've done. lol. I totally looked for his mistakes or uncomfortable acting. I found some at first but by the time going, I was adsorbed to his acting. I think it makes sense - LSJ awkward = Chun's awkward for few first episodes. LSJ loose = Chun became more adaptable to the acting.
I don't mind at all. It's kinda hard to find people to spazz with me since most dbsk fans have finished it in November when I just begun to watch in late December.... lol

I would like to watch something, because I would like to know the guys more :) I am actually new to kpop, I started in July, so I really wasn't able to get to know everyone at the same time XD And after a while I decided this is a time for DBSK, since everyone love them so much and I actually find them amazing too :D
And you're right about Chun developing along with LSJ! I am always amazed by how real life effects one's acting xD
I was avoiding this drama too for a long time, but my reason is much more shallow 8D Firstly, I wasn't realy into historical dramas, and I'm not gonna lie, even though it's embarrassing, I didn't like those hats 8D

I've been a fan of kpop since around 2000's. Too bad you never see them when everything 'seems' perfect back then.

And yes, this is one of the the reasons I've been avoiding TVXQ for some time now. I really want to get into them, but at the same time, when I watch old shows or interviews, I know this is all going to end very ugly :( Also their controversy is really spiced up by fans, many people jump into conclusions, and I don't want to start to dislike Homin or JYJ, or to draw wrong conclusions myself, because of other's opinions and its influence on me. Ahh, this is so complicated and depressing >.<
