Kang Ho-dong, host or participant of major TV entertainment programs, is estimated to earn 4-5 billion won a year, seemingly a walking small- or medium-sized entrepreneur.
He earns 9-10 million won for one appearance, according to those involving the broadcasting community.
If he received 9 million won ($8,000) per appearance in conservative estimate, he earned about 1,980 million won last year in four TV entertainment programs.
He was also active in the commercial film division. He was ad model for six brands last year Doctor You of Orion, Ssen(strong) Cook of Dongwon, Uri (Our) White Milk, Donguibogam Bokbunja, Digital Cable TV, Shinhang Financial Group. His model fee is about 300 million won in six months and about 500 million won a year, according to the advertisement community.
He contracted for six months, except Bokbunja. Based on this, Kang earned 1.5-2 billion won in CF last year. Besides these, Kang often played a host in corporate events. He is also running some 10 chains of meat shop, Yukpalgu, which opened in 2005, with a 50 percent stake. Based on the assumption, Kang is a “walking small-size corporation, earning 4-5 billion won a year.

This might not be that much if considered what some US TV hosts make in a year, but considering much smaller size of Korean market this is pretty great paycheck.

Date: 2011-01-17 08:22 am (UTC)im hoping those idols (especially those trapped under entertainment agencies who eat up most of their appearance fees saying 'its part of your publicity duties') who have the talent can also work hard in that area and someday become famous and successful MCs like kang hodong. (: yes park jungsu im talking about youuuuuu.
seeing all this about the CFs he undertakes and the chain of meat stores he owns -- he really is indeed a walking small-sized corporation. (never thought i'd see small-sized and kang hodong in the same sentence haha.)
:D

Date: 2011-01-17 12:04 pm (UTC)He (MC Yoo)does some serious MCing and gags (to the point it's painful to watch and embarrassing-not like the abomination called Jackass-yet natural).
Really I worry sometimes for Asian stars, they do more seriously dangerous TV work unlike their Western counterpart, without the high pay check.
Plus Koreans have this long working hours so if they do get dough then good on them.
Well I hope the netizens don't start acting up after knowing the KHD get's this much.
Good on him though, with the hours he must put in and the invasion of privacy yadayada it's only fair, also who knows how many shows he does to get this much.
