Singer Harisu has opened a transexual club in Seoul ApGooJung.
She wrote on her minihompy recently that she has opened a transexual club named ‘MIX-TRANS CLUB’.
She wrote on her minihompy, “Me and the seonbae I love have opened MIX-TRANS for people like me. There has been heartbreaking incidents where my friends or seonbae had committed suicide. So we have opened a space for people like us and we can get some respect.”

Date: 2009-05-28 08:11 am (UTC)Traditionally conservative values or not, you can't stem the tide of changes every young(er) generation brings in, decade after decade, whatsoever they may be (increasingly liberal tendencies, increasingly conservative tendencies, etc). Believe me, I have many ~*~korean-korean~*~ friends. I hold no delusions. But I find that, more often than not, there is a gap more in the information available to them re: sex/gender issues rather than a blatant ambivalence or disagreement of. Many are quite curious and open, if anything. This is no surprise.
What really shakes this up for me is that it's a trans club in Korea. Trans people a completely Western concept? Homosexuality, too? (Having NOTHING to do with gender identity, btw) -- HAH! I have faith that the desire to be seen and to be understood by their home country will, for the Korean people born this way, prevail. Eventually. Picketing conservatives and all. Big-city-specialized-bars are a great first step. Go Harisu, whom I never even knew existed, and now admire deeply. ♥

Date: 2009-05-28 11:32 am (UTC)Also, I want to go clubbing in Korea! I'd seriously die if a club in Sydney played Big Bang or something. They have Thai 'pop' nights at some gay clubs but no Korean yet!
