Group Shine’s leader Kelly attempts suicide

Shocking news came as Kelly (Kim Seung Hee), leader of 3-member female electronic band Shine, attempts suicide.

Kelly was discovered unconscious in her home at dawn of 27th May. She was said to have popped sleeping pills to attempt suicide. She was rushed to a hospital in Seoul and she is currently in intensive-care.

It was fortunate that she was alright, as an official reveals that she was known to have taken up to 40 sleeping pills, but was discovered in time to be saved.

Kelly‘ company said on 27th May, “Usually she would say things like it was tough and all. As the leader to team she has been worrying alot about the team especially since the team is undergoing a change in team members. And the pressure of performing overseas has been very great on her.”

Their company assures that this is not a Werthers effect after the death of former ex-president Roh.

She's going to need some major help after this.

If her overseas schedule was so tough, didn't her management and members notice she was falling apart?

I wish these suicides and attempted suicides would prompt people to change their attitudes towards depression and mental illness in general.

Sad. I'm going to go on a limb here and assume that mental illnesses and psychiatry are not issues that are addressed much in Korea.

Oh god, I'm thankful she's okay. I hate reading stuff about suicide, it scares me to think about the hardship these people go through.

Can someone fill me in on why the suicide rate is so high in South Korea? I mean, I've seen the statistics, and the extensive media coverage of celebrities committing suicide doesn't help either.
