1N2D gets criticized again for sadism

For the episode that aired on January 9th, “1 Night 2 Days” featured its second ‘foreigner special’. But viewers who watched the episode are criticizing the show for making the members drink burning hot coffee as a punishment.

During dinnertime, the members played a game where they had to complete four missions in three minutes. Failure to do so resulted in drinking a cup of scalding-hot coffee in just one go. Viewers could not bear watching such a painful thing; Lee Seung Gi and Kim Jong Min seemed to be in deep pain, which they expressed by stomping their feet to endure the hot liquid.

Additionally, the show added subtitles like, “Tongue is burning and their hearts are burning too,” “Tingling feeling,” “Painfully hot coffee,” and “You try it.” These little comments annoyed viewers and encouraged them to complain and share their feelings on the show’s online bulletin.

One viewer pointed out, “If you drink hot coffee that fast, you can not only burn yourself but damage your throat and esophagus. I can’t believe the show made singers play such a stupid game.” Another person said, “Did Lee Seung Gi drink twice because he’s the youngest? I got even angrier when Kang Ho Dong and Lee Soo Geun urged them to drink faster.”

The concern shared by everyone was expressed through, “I was so worried while watching it because I thought someone was going to get hurt.”

A very angry netizen wrote, “Are you out of your minds? How can you make singers, who survive on their throats, play such a game? I knew something like this was going to happen soon enough. The makers of this show are worrying me. What were you going to do if they burned themselves? The repertoire is the same, but this show is becoming more sadistic.”

In the past, “1 Night 2 Days” has been criticized for playing games that were just a bit too much, such as a thigh-pinching game and more.

Drinking hot drinks really is painful so I actually see where the netizens are coming from.

Lol uh the first thing I noticed was singers use a completely different part of the body to sing. Coffee goes down the esophagus but air travels through trachea and goes past larynx to make sounds...so it wouldn't really damage their voice. But it would still hurt like a bitch and just in case it goes down the wrong tube... :C

That's what I thought too. Hot water will actually help a singer by loosening the muscles in the throat causing less pressure. Hot coffee, don't they drink that shit everyday anyways? It's not like they made them lick a hot fire poker-that could be dangerous.
