Male actors are starting to reveal their muscular bodies, making the audience squeal with delight early in the new year.
In My Princess, which recently started airing, Song SeungHun displayed his muscular build through a shower scene in the second episode. Coming back to the TV screen after two years, Song Seung Hun showed his robust muscles with a towel wrapped around his waist; it seems like he’s already capturing the audience’s hearts.
Then there is actor Jung WooSung, who has finally returned after disappearing from the TV screen for 14 years. Jung WooSung has showed off his firmly toned body, igniting passion on screen through the second episode of SBS‘s Athena: Goddess of War. In one of the flashback scenes where he spent time with his past girlfriend, Jung WooSung only wore black swimming briefs, thus revealing his nice body; the Jung WooSung’s body quickly became a hot topic, becoming the day’s top search on the web.
In MBC‘s Queen of Rehearsals, Park SiHoo was also arranged to appear on the screen with a scene showing his abs. In a scene where Park SiHoo stays at a hotel with a close female friend, he shows off his bare upper half, while revealing his struggle and suffering for being from a Chaebol family.
Popular SBS drama Secret Garden is also following this trend by having Yoon SangHyun, Hyun Bin, Philip Lee, and other actors display their upper halves early on, satisfying the eyes of the audience. Starting from the first episode, Yoon SangHyun appeared on screen in a loose-fitted shirt, and after raising the expectations of the audience, he began showing his firmly packed body in a scene where he was practicing his dance moves as a Hallyu artist. In the fifth episode, Hyun Bin and Yoon SangHyun were talking about personal issues in sauna room, where they took off their shirts and thus displayed their abs. Afterwards, Philip Lee showed his built body fit for a martial arts instructor through a shower scene, attracting the female audience even more.
A stakeholder of one of the dramas explained the recent trends:
It is difficult to arrange scenes for the actresses to show off their bodies compared to an actor, who can easily just take off his shirt and capture the female audiences’ eyes. If the naked halves were to be shown right on the first episode, some of audience would easily disapprove; that’s why the best time to show off their bodies would be in the third and perhaps second episode, because it not only not attracts the audience, but also sparks heated discussions.
