Six Themes of SHINee 1st Concert

The first theme: “Charisma” – Members appeared on stage in black and started the concert with “The SHINee World.” They sang Senorita, Get Down, Juliette and AMIGO’s rock version remix. SHINee sang AMIGO with fans riding a rail car after getting to the 2^nd floor in wire.

 

The second theme: “Solo Stage” – Jonghyun tried DJ-ing Wheesung’s Girls and Taemin showed a performance like a “little prince” with the solo version of “Boy Meets Girl (Romeo+Juliette)” Screams of excitement arose from fans when Minho, who sang Usher’s OMG with Supreme Team’s Simon D, unbuttoned his jacket to show his chiseled chest. Key made a club-like performance of “My First Kiss” with f(x) Krystal.

The third theme: “Regrets” – In beige and white costumes, SHINee sang Romantic, Obsession, and Graze, emotional songs about an old lover who left. 

The fourth theme: “Purity” – In colorful skinny jeans, SHINee sang their debut song “Noona Is So Pretty” and “Love Like Oxygen” along with fountains spouting on the stage.

The fifth theme: “Longing” – In white, SHINee sang Quasimodo, Life, and Baby in the Island Cottage. Onew moved fans with his performance of Nessun Dorma from Puccini’s Turandot.

The last theme: “Passion” – SHInee showed powerful and dynamic dances singing Ring Ding Dong, Lucifer, Up and Down, and Ready or Not.

Bonus: Playful encore time – Jojo, Bodyguard, and One. Singing Bodyguard, SHINee members had a playful time throwing balls to fans and pouring water on each other. Singing the last encore song One, they got emotional and tearful.

PURITY. Really? Sometimes I appreciate the sexualization of both sexes in Kpop as compared to the American pop scene, but this is some messed up Taylor Swift purity ball shit right here. Fountains, jfc. So much second hand embarrassment sometimes.

It's not a new idea though - even without calling one of the concert themes "Purity", the boys were always marketed as pure/clean/shining.
Really that's what the eras from Replay to Juliette were all about.

And yeah, maybe that's what we sign up for when we become shinee fans, that whole neat/cute/noona-killer image (which sounds fucked up, I know).
But tbh I think not - if we (as individual fans) don't warp it in our heads, that already counts for a lot.

In that case, the "Longing" theme was my favourite part of the concert. "Quasimodo" and "Life". <333
At first, I was all like WTF when I heard that Onew sang opera. I love the boy, but I was all like "WHAT?!" I finally had the courage to listen to it after I kept hearing good reviews about it and he did a magnificent job!! I should have known. Onew was born with everything except for balance and drawing skills. He really surprised me with his solo.

The other solo stages gets a theme of their own? LOL It would have been interesting if they fit it in with the other themes of the concert.

I seriously love these shining boys and hopefully someday they will have a concert in America, on the east coast. If that day ever comes, god knows i will break my wallet just to come and see them perform! :)

Please, the idea of a Japanese Lucifer makes my head hurt. Everyone was creaming over them signing to EMI too because there was chance that they would be ~different~. Hopefully we'll have new songs as a b-side if Lucifer will be their debut Japanese single.
