Epik High World Tour - San Francisco
2009-05-16 02:56 amThis is my experience at the Epik High concert in San Francisco. I really don't have much to say about Far*East Movement or Kero One, so it won't be as covered as much as Epik High.
The concert started off slow but steady with Far*East Movement performing a couple of songs. They were dressed in space suits and pretended they were from the year 3008 or something trying to save music. I hadn't heard any of their songs before, but I guess they were alright. After about a half hour, they got off stage for Kero One. One of their songs they performed was Girls on the Dance Floor.
To say Kero One's performance was a disappointment would be an understatement. It seemed as though he would be pretty good, but he became a bit of a bore. Everyone was standing up at first because he's from San Francisco and all. And after a couple of songs, most of the crowd had sat down in their seats. He was mediocre at rapping, but the girl who sang had some issue with backing up her vocals. His gig took up a total of 45 minutes and by that time everybody was wishing for Epik High to come on stage. I kind of felt sorry for him. Since I didn't really pay attention while he was doing his thing, I can't remember any of the names of his songs.
After Kero One, of course, came Epik High! Everyone was screaming and yelling now. DJ Tukutz first came out and did a little bit of his turntabling with some guy whose-name-I-don't-remember. But I do remember that that one dude beatboxed. Tablo then came out along with MYK and did one of their songs. Mithra then joined them and performed a couple of songs such as Breakdown, Map the Soul, Flow, and Top Gun. Mostly songs from their new album, and a couple of old ones too. MYK also sang a solo at one point, and it was pretty good.
It was assigned seating at the SF venue, so it definitely had a weird atmosphere to it being as it is a hip hop concert. When the second half of the concert began, Tablo said a few words then began to perform again. This half of the concert began with 1 Minute & 1 Second. After that, they did One and the excitement was off the scale. Some time into the performance, people began to rushed down towards the stage and danced and took pictures. At this time, security was nothing compared to the crowd, so the guys left it so that anyone on the main floor could come down and get closer to the stage rather than staying in the assigned seating. I decided to go down myself and got a pretty good spot, plus some better shots. Love, Love, Love and Fly came after that. For their encore, they performed Map the Soul again and then Fan to end the show. In total, the concert was 3 hours long.

Tablo again

Tukutz Fox. Sadly, this was the best shot I could get of him. :(

Mithra Bear!
There were a couple of things that were memorable points, besides the performances, but the group had said some pretty funny things. Especially this one thing... Some fan had made a sign that said "Let's Get Fucked Up!" and Tablo had noticed it and decided to crack a joke by saying that Tukutz should be the one who needs it. rofl.
It was a fabulous concert, partly because it was my very first one and how Epik High hypes up an audience amazes me. They sound just as great live as they do on their CDs.
Performances (they're only clips because my camera's memory was getting really low D:)
Word of advice for those who are going to one of the concerts and plan to buy merch: Line up earlier! Don't expect them to still be available if you plan to get there around the time the concert starts. The merchandise goes out quick, especially the book album, and the so-called "lines" are crazy and super packed.
There's also a contest to meet all the performers and to win a phone, so be sure to enter that!

Date: 2009-05-16 10:19 am (UTC)It was an amazing concert wasn't it? I was on a high afterwards. But yeah, the seating thing was weeeird. I ran towards the stage with everyone else there around halftime, and it felt like that was when the concert actually started, I dunno.
I felt sorry for Kero One too, everyone was like going out to get food during his performance. I think if it hadn't been a seated concert maybe the warm up acts actually had been able to up the hype for epik high instead of putting us to sleep. :/

omg, I totally misinterpreted that part and thought he meant another~ sign... xD That makes a lot more sense now! lol
Thanks for sharing! :D

Date: 2009-05-16 10:20 am (UTC)LOL! If Tablo like that sign he's gonna love his shirt (http://community.livejournal.com/omonatheydidnt/415834.html) that's coming.
Damn, Tukutz is such a sneaky fox. It's like we are going to have to get wild life photographers with helicopters and telephoto lenses to capture him.
