It's been a little while since the release of Kangta's episode on Golden Fishery, but finally the whole episode has been subbed! Kangta, ex-member/lead vocalist of iconic 90's k-pop idol group H.O.T appeared on Golden Fishery to talk about the entertainment industry.

Being one of the older idols and one of the ones to have stuck around longest with SM Entertainment, he has quite a few stories to tell about H.O.T,  Shinhwa, idol groups that are popular these days... we also get an insight into the very strict training of SM Entertainment the way it was back then, thoughts and feelings about crazy stalker fans, acting in dramas, dating in the entertainment industry and how tough life can get for everyone involved.

He also opens up a little about the circumstances surrounding the H.O.T's sudden split. A very interesting look into the idol world from the view of one of the veteran idols, complete with embarrassing photos and stories.

thanks for posting. It was quite interesting to watch. I almost forgot that andy was supposed to be part of H.O.T. How weird would that have been? I love how kangta said that shinhwa fight so much, yet they have a strong bond. Love those boys.

kangta talking about it was back in the day reminded me of come to play idol special and how dongwan was talking about how strict it was compared to now or something like that.

It sucks that H.O.T. split over such a misunderstanding, but I guess it's understandable. I'm glad that everything is in the past though and they worked it out.

that point that LSM made about a singer's job is to sing well and that they are not producers was interesting. I'm not entirely sure what to do think about that. I suppose it is true in way. the main job for a singer is to sing well, but I have a lot of respect for those singers do write/compose/produce their own work.

Well, now we know why all those SM groups are so damn precise with their dancing. But I think LSM needs to change his opinion how it's singer's job only to sing as singers who also compose/produce are usually much more respected and will probably gain more fans among general population and more loyal fanbase and thus are more likely to have a career also post their idol time. And I'm amused how Kangta seems to admire Big Bang instead of some SM group.

kangta was my favorite... before the break-up. i ended up being JTL's fan lol
hearing from the other four about what they think of the split will be interesting, and probably more believable, tbh.

As a new fan I appreciate the insight into the birth of the idol groups. It's also nice to know that no matter what they say our Oppa's are dating, because love is a beautiful thing and it would be such a waste to not have anybody during the prime of your life.

But yeah I think I just fell in Love with Kangta.

A million thanks to the subber.

I'm actually really fascinated to learn more about HOT. I know most of the basics, and I have some of their music, so I can't wait until you put out more videos!

And Kangta is so much better looking now than in his earlier days. Maybe it's the hair so something. Or maybe he just looks so sophisticated now?

This was really a good show! I am so now very interested in Kangta and H.O.T
As said, the comparison to TVXQ is creepy but I guess that is how it is.
I love how Kangta seems so true and down to earth. How he really speaks without being afraid or to media trained like so many of the idols are today.
I am dying to know, who was this said gf???

This was so interesting to watch! H.O.T. was the group that got me into kpop back in the day (shortly before the broke up lol), so this made me feel so nostalgic. Thank you for sharing the subs here! ♥

This was so enjoyable to watch I can't even begin. tysm for putting these together for us fans. ♥

Things I loved (which was like, everything):
- ALL the military anecdotes. More idols need to do this! I'm curious to see how much he's changed after all the army serving.
- lmao his damn cocky attitude back then but I am totally not surprised by this. Biggest thing to hit Korea back then but now, look at the scene. The fans that stayed are really precious.
- Idol dating deetz. I laugh at most kpop fans these days b/c if only they knew.... It's good to know that people as popular as Kangta were able to date and keep it on the DL. Blood letters will never go out of style, it seems. (ㄱㅡ)
- Old Skool SM Training Regimen®. Sounds so hxc it's almost unreal. This whole conditioning to "monitor oneself" is very interesting. "A celebrity that doesn't monitor himself will be demolished." They may be plastic fantastic robots that spout off well-rehearsed cliched lines but you gotta hand it to them in the delivery dept. Cause they deliver. Polished from the moment of their debut. For some lives perfs, I've heard random people who aren't SM fans say, 'SM artists are really impressive in some kind of way.' Polished, well-packaged, whatever. SME knows how to produce stars.
- How after all the drama went down for the members, they managed to resolve and move past it. Surprising to see Tony, Woohyuk, and Jaewon keep in touch with LSM and even hear that Tony asks him for advice. I think with all the DBSK and Hangeng drama, it's hard to imagine the SM tops (most people just place blame on LSM) as anything but ruthless. Not giving a flying f- for their artists, burning bridges and all that. And ofc things may be different when you're not working for them. Like you I can't wait until Tony's Golden Fishery ep comes out so we can see what he has to say about this.
- Shinhwa's way of fighting things out. ♥ them and their ability to remain as a team after all these years.
- Kangta and LSM's relationship. Kangta's (or rather, H.O.T's) legacy to SME.
- Kangta's mention of Big Bang. I agree with everything he said about them.

Sorry for the long essay... but ever since I got into H.O.T and Shinhwa like 7 years ago (lol my timing sigh), I've been biased towards SM artists. I'm not a big DBSK fan but when you see history somewhat repeating itself, you start to wonder about their other artists. Right now I'm really into SHINee and sometimes when I read the news about DBSK/SJ and watch the stuff Kangta just explained, I can't help but guard myself and wait for the inevitable--when SHINee goes their separate ways. It's kinda sad to be at peace with this so early on even though everything's peachy keen in the SHINee World but idk we older fans have seen it all. Pop acts are temporary but life goes on. It did with H.O.T and other former kpop groups and it will for them.
