With MBLAQ currently participating on an Mnet reality program titled, Kim Suro’s Prestigious University Class, the members have confessed their feelings of hardships regarding the views around them, as they all study in an effort to become accepted at the highly regarded Seoul University.

On the 4th, member Mir spoke for the first time since the show began, revealing his disappointments and mental hardships, “The students that were accepted by Seoul University study hard, as if 24 hours in a day isn’t enough for them. They think that we’re going to be able to get in so easily, so they look at us in a bad light, which we completely understand.”

He went on to confess, “The MBLAQ members are also under a lot of stress and pressure since we have to get into one of the greatest universities ever. It’s hard for us.”

One student at Seoul University that appeared on the episode, also revealed that the MBLAQ members are being treated as if they are ‘fools.’

Netizens left comments such as, “The students that are aiming for Seoul University must study until their brains explode. What about those students? These types of TV programs need to be gotten rid of,” “It’s hard enough for the students that practically lived in high school to get into Seoul University, why would the show even aim for that school with MBLAQ? They should change it to something easier and more realistic, like MBLAQ studying for a city college,” and “They should quit the show if they’re getting in the way of the students. Not just Seoul University students, but in the way of any one that is truly there to learn.”

Although I think they should have chosen a lesser university, one that wasn't so prestigious, treating them disrespectfully is just that, disrespectful. Regardless if they are idols or not.

ngl i can totally empathize with the students @ SNU, but idol does not automatically equate to "fool" or unintelligent/unworthy of a top notch education. these comments obviously all stem from jealousy - popular, good looking, rich, AND smart?! IMPOSSIBLE. and although i'd love to see this program work it maaaaaay be for the best interest of the BOYS to just scrap it :[

So...I'm finally agreeing with the netizens on this one. Those kids who study 24/7 shouldn't be inconvenienced because of a reality show. It's their lives and futures that they're investing in with the course load they take.

Maybe it's trying to show that kids should study so they're using idols to help with that? But I agree, it doesn't sound very entertaining, I might as well study for my own exams rather than watch it.

so the point of the show is mblaq to get accepted to the school?

hahah that's like trying to go to harvard. good luck with that.
but in korea is it only your entrance exam score that determines if you're accepted? because in the states it's like essays, recommendations, extra curricular, work experience, and community service, ect

Date: 2010-09-05 04:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mycorrhizoid.livejournal.com
I'm no expert, but it seems like the exam grades are very, very important in Korea. I'm pretty sure the reason that Minho's in college and Key isn't is because their schedule was too busy and Key couldn't go home to Daegu to take his exams.

Idk, apparently the students themselves have an issue with it too, and there was that other article that also mentioned them complaining. I can understand their side, if I was already stressed from the university life and on top of that also had to deal with staff running around and celebrities I don't give a shit about I'd probably be annoyed too (although I wouldn't treat anyone like a fool). The thing is, this show is for fun and entertainment but the real life concerning studies in that place is far from entertaining so it clashes.

Date: 2010-09-05 02:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] waltz-in-code.livejournal.com
well i think the netizens shouldn't be hatin' on mblaq's serious attempt to get in
but i do think the premise of this show is rather disrespectful towards all the students who spend half their lives trying to get into korea's #1 school.
it's taking the very srs bsns process of college admissions and turning it into a reality show with idols, so i guess it's treating the subject matter too lightly?
and the chances of any idol getting in through this show is almost none due to their busy schedules, normal people already have a hell of a time getting in.

lol i hope that made sense.

Date: 2010-09-05 02:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] byronsbitch.livejournal.com
Yea basically they're making light of a situation that is very fucking serious for most of those students. Nothing against the boys themselves, but the shows producers should have thought this out better.

Yeah, but these are mostly distractions that students themselves picked out. Why should the students have to deal with being distracted by something they didn't bargain for as part of their post-secondary educational experience? If I paid good money to get in some prestigious university, I'd actually would like the school to cater to me, not some stupid passing pop fixations.
