SBS PD calls 2PM, 2AM, and SHINee “pieces of trash”

A tweet left on an SBS variety show PD’s Twitter has recently sparked a controversy, as he called 2PM, 2AM, and SHINee ‘pieces of trash’.

On the 4th, the PD wrote, “I’m just roughly working on a special episode with 2PM, SHINee and 2AM, those pieces of trash haha.”

The fans who read this caused an outrage saying, “He thinks they’re a joke, and he intended to diss them” and “How can he say that so calmly?”

On the flip side, there is also another response from fans and netizens, saying they should calm down. They left comments such as, “Putting the term ‘trash’ aside, the fact that he is only just ‘roughly’ making a special episode is something SBS could potentially fire him for, do you really think he could be telling the truth? It sounds like he is just ironically showing his close friendship with them” and “People need to remind themselves that he said it in his own personal space.”

This just goes to show that these days, in a world where social communication has become a major factor in society, saying just one sentence has the potential to turn an innocuous comment into a full blown issue.

It's a matter of feeling that you've been offended by someone's comments. PD didn't catch much flak because he didn't anything harsh to offend so many Koreans personally. No if PD said that Koreans were pieces of trash the yes, shit would have gone down.

Everyone knows how easy you can be misunderstood through the internet since no one sees your expression and/or your voice (and well, that are the important points to see if someone's joking or not). Maybe its because I don't get Korean humor, but I don't see how that could be read as a joke. I think most people on LJ have probably used "lol" at the end of a snarky comment when they really weren't joking. I guess this guy didn't learn anything from the f(x) drama.

Yeah, I don't see how either. Might have been a bad translation of the actual comment, or maybe trash means ~awesome, amazing thing/person~ in Korean.

Piece of trash here would be an insult. Think: "Piece of shit". I do understand that when you're close to someone you use certain terms in a joking manner (i.e., stupid, dumbass, loser, etc) but that phrase is an odd one to use in a joking way.
