Gummy’s Mom To Debut As A Singer

It has been reported on newsen today that Jang Sook Jung (52), otherwise known as Grandma Gummy's mom, will be debuting as a singer. Which is quite random, isn't it?

Kang Chan Lee of Chan Lee Productions spoke with newsen about this news: "It's not like she (Sook Jung) all of a sudden wanted to release an album. Originally Ms. Jang's dream was to become a singer but her father, who was the principal of a school, was opposed to this dream. This is why she put her dreams into her daughter and she raised Gummy to become a singer."

Furthermore about her music, "Her first single is brilliant and she has been preparing her music since last October. Currently, she has 7 songs ready. She is pouring her heart and soul into the preparation, and currently the plan is to release her album in July with a total of 10 songs. She will do trot, folk, and ballad songs."

Gummy seems to be in full support of her mother. Kang PD said "Gummy has been directly involved in the directing of her mother's album. Since Gummy is friends with many famous singers, she got the support of Lyn, Park Hwayobi and Young Ji (of Bubble Sisters fame) to help her mother in the chorus of some of her songs."

Although she may make it in the trot world and gain ahjuhshi (old men) and ahjumah (old ladies) fans, I don't see her becoming popular in the pop world. But, I'm happy to see a life long dream become a reality. Best of luck to her.

Couldn't tell you why I liked it so much since it was so obviously aimed at older female viewers, but I loved it. It's hard to watch now that Estelle Getty and Bea Arthur have passed, though. :(
