After their recent single release [Stop (Money Can't Buy Me Love)], hip-hop girl duo Blacklist, recently revealed that member Cheetah (Kim EunYoung) underwent artificial brain death surgery prior to the group’s debut.
Lead member and rapper Cheetah, dropped out of high school and headed for Seoul with aspirations to become a singer when she was 17. During this time, she suffered a car accident, and was sent to the emergency room.
As she was bleeding excessively in the head, she had to undergo an artificial brain death surgery, which requires the patient to be completely anesthetized, except for the heart. As a result, there was a slim chance of survival.
Cheetah was very lucky to have had successful surgery and she recalled her memories of being hospitalized.
“After my accident, I had to have a respirator in my throat, so my voice changed. No matter how much I screamed, my old voice would not come back, so I would yell and yell crying… Every night, I would go to the roof of the hospital and sing until my voice would become hoarse. There were rumors amongst the other patients, saying that I had lost my mind after my surgery.”
Cheetah stayed in the hospital for a full year.
After her recovery, she began preparations with current member Lucy for a year and a half before they became known as hip-hop duo Blacklist, the “second Tashannie.” They stand out from other female groups because of their boyish and tight singing and outstanding stage manner on public music programs.
