A Korean missionary was shot dead while two Korean nationals were briefly taken as human
shields in a predawn robbery in Pasig City on Monday.

Radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported that the missionary, identified as Cho Tai Wan, died after sustaining at least two gunshot wounds in the shoulder.

The fatality reportedly just fetched at least seven Korean nationals from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and was driving them to Cainta, Rizal.

However, the unidentified robbers reportedly blocked their path at the eastbound part of Ortigas Extension.

The unidentified robbers divested the passengers of their valuables and took as human shields Kim Yang Gan and Kim Jung Suk, but eventually released them.

Police are now looking into the possibility the gang may have followed the victims from NAIA, and struck in eastern Metro Manila.

Initial investigation showed the suspects reportedly blocked the path of the Chevrolet van (XEV-328) but fired at it repeatedly when the driver refused to get down.

Metro Manila deputy chief for administration Chief Superintendent Roberto Rongavilla said they already have mobile random checkpoints to stop such holdups.

"Ang ating pulis nandoon naman at siguro medyo ... di sila natsatsambahan ng ating kapulisan. Sinisiguro natin ang ating running checkpoint nariyan at mabulaga sila (We have police roving the area.

They may have slipped past our checkpoints. We have to be stricter in our checkpoint operations)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. –VVP, GMANews.TV

ikr?!?!?! it makes me feel so ashamed. not just for the criminals but also for the flawed system of stopping these crimes and providing justice. this is why even if i haven't been there in years i'm not really looking forward to visit.

I don't live there anymore but what has been going on there lately? My condolences go to the missionary's family. This article also reminds how my mom's friend there was robbed and killed at her own school (she was a principal). :(

Is this group the same one from Mindanao who held those Americans for hostage 5+ yrs ago, and I think it was Erap and that actor... Padilla? idek, visited them XD

this article just makes me feel so disappointed. I mean, this is already bad enough, then here comes Mendoza, hijacking a bus and taking about 20+ foreigners as hostages then killing about 2 of them. wow.

2000 hkg tourists cancelled their trips already, 5000 more Europeans, what else?

now, all 9 are dead. :( 2 kids left orphans, they don't even know their parents died. I'm glad though that one tourists insisted that a fellow tourist's kid was her own kid and pulled him down.

me too! we were all wondering how they could take that long and the policemen looked like little scared boys.. trying to use a rope to open that door, and hammering the window which really had no effect and took forever.

i keep thinking when the shooter let some hostages out in the afternoon, a sniper couldve had the chance to shoot him down..

i was wondering the same too as to why they didn't do anything when the gunman can be clearly see dyring the day. like you said they could have just used a sniper. i'm equally shaken by the whole thing.

fuck, my brother left to go to Korea today for missionary work training and then he'll be going off to another country for missionary work....I know the chances of this happening to him are very very slim, but I can't help that it makes me feel a little uneasy.

I feel horrible for the family members of the victims.

Just out of curiosity is this supposed to be related to the HK hostages? I'm not familiar with the situation.

Hai guys. Just copy-pasting from this tumblr (http://theurbanhistorian.tumblr.com/post/998077991/mendoza-is-just-one-man-we-number-about-92).

Mendoza is just one man, we number about 92 million in the world. 92 million Filipinos could do better wonders than this rotten man who deserves to die.

Being ashamed to be a Filipino is a big bitchslap to the memory of Rizal, Bonifacio and all the others who died without seeing an independent nation in their own lifetimes.

After this, you are still a Filipino, whether you liked what happened or not, you are still responsible for cleaning up the mess this day brought us.
