Lee Seung Gi = Korea's next best MC?

To be an MC is a difficult endeavor, especially if you want to become a renowned one. You have to be able to advance a show smoothly while entertaining the viewers and staying on track, a task that is easier said than done. In the current generation, when you think of MCs, several names come to mind, such as Kang Ho Dong and Yoo Jae Suk.

So how about the generation to come?

On the 4th, SBS Strong Heart PD Park Sang Hyuk put his confidence in Lee Seung Gi to be the next best MC: “There are many people nominated to become next generation’s best MC, but among those, I think Lee Seung Gi will take the honor of being the next best MC. I am sure that Lee Seung Gi will follow Kang Ho Dong and Yoo Jae Suk’s steps in becoming the next best MC.”

As singer, actor, and entertainer, Lee Seung Gi is the very definition of a multi-faceted talent. In addition, it is not an exaggeration to say that he has succeeded in all his varying activities. In other words, he is a celebrity who truly fits the name of an “all-around entertainer.”

There was much anxiety for Lee Seung Gi when he stepped up as an MC for Strong Heart last October. His worries proved for naught though, as Lee Seung Gi got good ratings as an MC, and is now establishing a strong foothold in that area.

But how is Lee Seung Gi getting so much attention even among the very best, experienced MCs such as Yoo Jae Suk and Kang Ho Dong with just this one show?

Firstly and mostly, it is because Lee Seung Gi holds an image that attracts the love and attention of men and women of all ages. PD Park Sang Hyuk himself pointed this out to be the main reason Lee Seung Gi would be the next best MC, stating that “Lee Seung Gi has a personality that makes him very approachable by anyone. The number of celebrities that hold this kind of strong vibe can be counted with one hand.”

Instead of accumulating public criticism that some celebrities are prone to do, Lee Seung Gi is famous for taking care of his image very well, which also helps in his chances to become a great MC. He entered the celebrity world at a young age and was met with instant success, but through it all, he was always humble, ready to learn, and never did anything that would taint his image. Furthermore, he is now showing interest in charity work, such as helping the needy and giving back to the community.

With his killer smile, approachable personality, and what seems to be an impeccable image, can he do it?

Um yeah.

But for male candidate I'd have to go with Teuk. If both Teuk and LSG were thrown on the same game show, there'd be a much higher chance that the main MC will (unconsciously) pull Teuk out as co-MC. It's an almost instinctual thing for MCs now whenever Teuk appears on any game show.

There are times when I enjoy him MC-ing and when I don't. Sometimes he gets on my nerves because, like you said, he doesn't read the atmosphere. And sometimes his jokes come at the expensive of another's feelings. You can tell, from their face, just how much they want to dig a hole and crawl into it. I think that's why I've always preferred Jaesuk more.

I've always preferred jaesuk as well. He doesn't go overboard and is not as obnoxious imo. I like kang ho dong as well and he can be really funny at times, but it sometimes it's just too much and like the person said above you, he tries to hard. I actually like kang ho dong best with jaesuk. I think they work well off of each other, like in xman. Although in xman he did really annoy me at times.

I think while he does force things sometimes, there are moments where he does have good timing to crack a line or say something caring. Mainly, he's a very high energy mc and brightens the atmosphere with his explosiveness -- even when he can't read it all the time. I cringe sometimes from what he does, but he manages to entertain the audience and the guests while engaging most people in the action. It's very... blunt sometimes, but In my opinion he manages to pull it off.

i sort of... not liked, but tolerated him for a few years because he did have really great comedic timing, but after the painful golden fishery episode with wg i started nitpicking about all the other instances in which i'd seen him manage touchy situations in a similarly tactless manner. and now i'm like, well if it only took me a few years of watching a few clips here and there, why doesn't korea as a whole notice him when they can watch much more of him? or something like that haha D:

I think he's best on 1n2d, since he's really comfortable with the other members. They're like brothers! I've never watched golden fishery, so I don't know about the instance you're talking about but I do know that he sometimes rushes forwards into things without a lot of tact.

People probably either tolerate him or like him in some shows D: Not all.

He obviously isn't as good as Hodong or Jaesuk, but he has the potential to get better. I think with more experience he'd be better at making the atmosphere comfortable and his jokes do make people laugh.

LSG has potential. He's not usually the one cracking jokes but he's a sidekick-style MC, the one who reacts. He learns to actually initiate more often

I'm seriously impressed with that boy's ability to talk his way through ANYTHING, his enthusiastic tone when hosting shows and how he's so spontaneous and funny. although.. i wouldnt want him to be the next generation's best MC cos that would just mean he'd work his ass off again and be more susceptible to depression than he already is.. but i think he's a really good MC too. :) its nice seeing both lee seung gi and teukie on strong heart.. but i think these two guys would be pretty awkward tgt. :P
