Leeteuk is Nervous About What Will Happen When he Returns from the Army

Super Junior’s Leeteuk expressed fear about what will happen to him after returning from the army.

Though he’s not there yet, it’s almost time for this idol leader to head off, and on the episode of Happy Birthday that aired on the second, he talked about how he is scared taht he will lose popularity when he comes back from the army.

Leeteuk said, “Kim Jong Min and Chun Myung Hoon don’t seem to have gained back their popularity completely after returning from the army. I’m worried I’ll go through the same thing when I come back. Kim Jong Min, Chun Myung Hoon, No Yoo Min, Lee Sung Jin and more have not been able to get used to the variety programs. People have been saying that they’re not as good as they used to be.”

Lee Kyung Kyu, the MC, advised him, “Just be more carefree. You work way too hard. On Strong Heart, you work so hard. If you work this hard, you’ll have nothing to do when you come back.”

That is some good advice. It seems like Leeteuk stresses himself out with variety programs. I find his witty comments funnier than things he prepares.

For once, I agree with allkpop - Leeteuk needs to take a deep breath and relax a bit - for the sake of his health, if nothing else.

I actually agree with AKP someone shoot me. I'm worried too but more worried about what SM is going to do with him since they really are driven by profit. its gonna be interesting to watch what happens when he and others like Rain comeback after their military time. I however don't think ELFs will let him down ^^

I understand his fears, but realistically one can't stay a teen/youth "idol" for long. He's lucky that he's still considered a popular idol in the increasingly youth-obsessed Korean society. Most K-idols peak after a couple years and then rapidly decline and go off with a whisper. He's already 27, and he'll have to enlist within the next 1-3 years (more likely 1-2). I agree that he should relax and not stress out over his "popularity" but rather he should focus on making himself more...I don't know the right term, respected? He needs to carve out a niche for himself if he wants to remain relevant. If he doesn't do that, he'll be considered a "former idol has-been" so when he comes back from the army being 30+ years old, he'll need something to fall back on. And you know what? Not being super popular with hormonal teenage girls won't kill you.

I agree that he needs to chill out for a bit. He works and tries very hard, and it's apparent. He's one of the most "gag-greedy" guys on Korean TV right now. It's something that takes a lot of time and experience though.

I understand his worries though. Kim Jongmin was totally at his peak before he went to the army, but on the other hand, Leeteuk could come back from the army and be even funnier like Kim Jongkook(although he complains that the newer generation thinks he's a comedian and not a singer XD).

I can understand where he's coming from. If I was in his position, I'd be thinking like, "What if no one cares about me when I come back? Then what the hell am I going to do with my life?" It'd be pretty scary.

i think the way suju is set up, there might not be any problems. sure they might not have teen fangirls trying to own them, but those who are now...will have grown up a bit and want a different mature suju. you have KRY, DH, SW, EH and SM at least standing by holding down the fort while some of the boys will be away. (and if they are smart, they will get yesung to enlist sooner than later. )

It looks like sme are testing out whether kry would be successful if they promoted in Japan. If the kry concert did really well(merchandise as well) then they will probably enlist yesung as late as possible.

I think that if someone's good then being away in the army will only make everyone long for them even more. And in my opinion Leeteuk is one of the good ones. He knows how to give speeches when it comes to serious business but is also very naturally funny and good with physical humour too. That, coupled with SuJu's status, imo means he's got nothing to worry about!
