Plagiarism producer Bahnus, who gave a total of 6 songs stolen from original composers to singer Lee Hyori during her 4th album recording has plead guilty to fraud charges pressed against him.

Bahnus known as Mr Lee revealed to the police of Seodaemun that he gave the songs to Lee Hyori and to her company at the time, Mnet Media, under his own name when those songs were in fact stolen from the originals creators.
He also told the police that he gathered the songs from illegal download sites for free, songs which were composed by American and Canadian artists and wanted to benefit from them.

He had previously claimed that those songs were illegally leaked on various download portals before and that he and his group of producers were the only ones who owned the rights of the tracks.

The plagiarism issues damaged Lee Hyori’s 4th album promotional activities and her reputation in the music industry.

The singer revealed this matter to her fans on her official fancafe and apologized to them back in late June, she had also stated that she would take full responsabilty.

Mnet Media stand on this was that : “We will take full responsibility and will solve this matter for Lee Hyori, even though she didn’t renew the contract with us.We are aware that the plagiarism issue has put Hyori and Mnet Media in a bad position, affecting H-Logic’s album sales and damaging her image.”

Investigations have come to an end,the case will now proceed to Prosecution.

This is so sad. I'm glad he's being charged for his crimes but the damage as been done and many artists' reputations and finances had to suffer for this guy's mistakes.

i wonder who else he tried to give songs to?? i heard he gave 10+ songs to mnet for t-ara to use in their next album but they rejected them because the style didnt fit and ended up sending him to hyori instead! her luck is really terrible... i heard that he tried to give a few songs to DSP for kara's use too.

Good that he's pleading guilty. Though reading this kind of broke my heart, ngl. :(

I don't really think Hyori's reputation in the music industry is ruined entirely. I think with her taking a break from all this and having signed onto a new label she'll be able to bounce back with something fresh and new and get her image back, even if the backlash of this is going to take some time to recover. But the troubling thing is people here are still going to hate on her even though she was caught in the middle of this rather unfortunate situation. She's not at fault here, Bahnus took advantage of her, Mnet Media and countless others he played in the passed. It's just sad that her career has to suffer because of what this guy did.

Stay strong bb Hyori! We're here for you, girl!

The tag called plagiarizing queen.

Sucks for Hyori, but the public's never going to be able to get over this.

I really hope Hyori doesn't keep on getting shit. I mean seriously, she's human too. I don't get why people keep on attacking her for trusting people in the business. Clearly, it's not a smart thing to do, but it's not exactly immoral.

This Bahnus guy however.. RAWR.

I hope she comes back soon.

Another note.. who else agrees with me that the picture doesn't quite fit -___-

it's unfortunate that when you're in a business like this, you hafta place some trust in people (i.e. agent-client relationship, stuff like that). in this case, there was only so much she could do without going behind people's backs/step on people's toes/etc.

however, someone should have done some research about this guy before they decided to hire him. it's not really stepping on toes until you actually hire them, ya know?

It would be kind of fun if he went down saying he did all that for a better Korean music industry and that the companies should start paying the composers better, pay more attention to what they're buying, etc.

Joking aside, it will be hard for the backlash to not keep reaching Hyori. I love the girl but in the end she is the image of her own work and unfortunately not many people really care about the behind the scenes with composers, producers, etc. Singers get a lot of individual praising when things go right and an original song is successful, it works both ways. Best of luck to her.

it is unfortunate that ultimately this all goes back to her, but once ppl understand the music industry more (like most of us do) there wont be so many people out for her head.

that having been said, i wonder if she'll be able to recover from this well enough. isnt this her second plagiarism accusation in x-amount of years? it only gets harder from here on out...

Did he also produce So cold, Scandal, and Love Sign? If he did, than why would he put himself on the line like that if he's actually talented?

if he already pleaded guilty, why does there need to be more hearings?

what does pleading guilty mean?

Date: 2010-07-23 02:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nene718.livejournal.com
Pleading guilty means that he's admitting that he broke the law. The hearings are probably to figure out what punishment he should get.

I wonder what the hell was going on in this guy's head...did he seriously think he could get away with this??? It's not even that he stole the songs but he stole the song and changed NOTHING, it's the same exact song just in a different language.

Pay what you are paid to do. If you can't write and produce your OWN music when you sell yourself as someone who does, get a different job.
